FLSUN are a globally renowned designer and manufacturer of FDM 3D printers, specialized in Delta 3D printers. One of their products is the S1 3D printer designed specially for high speed 3D printing without sacrificing quality and efficiency. S1 offers the astonishing printing speed of 1200 mm/s, a build volume of Ø 320 x 430 mm, an extrusion temperature of 350 ºC and a bed temperature of 120 ºC.

These parameters and the printer's acrylic enclosure significantly expand the range of materials that can be used with the S1 3D printer from standard materials such as PLA, PETG, PVA, PET to more demanding filaments such as ABS, ASA, PA, PC, including fiber-reinforced materials thanks to the hardened steel nozzle. Furthermore, the S1 printer's dual gear direct drive extruder enables the smooth extrusion of flexible materials such as TPU. 3D printing tests for those materials can be watched on the FLSUN YouTube channel.

The textured PEI print surface ensures optimal adhesion of the first layer and easy removal of the parts. Furthremore, it features a smart zone design, which means that the heated area can be adjusted to the size of the part, resulting in increased energy efficiency.

Thus, the S1 3D printer is equipped with a sturdy all-metal frame for ultimate stability at such high printing speeds (aided with sensors for active vibration compensation).

The printer's 36 V closed-loop motor, equipped with a voltage sensor and control circuit, offers unrivaled accuracy and enables the S1 printer to perform at the heights of its possibilities without problems. The potent CPAP Turbofan ensures fast part cooling (1s per layer) with 40000 rpm in order to match the ultrahigh layer deposition speed. The high performance ultralight printhead was also optimized to provide impeccable results at such high printing speeds.

The S1 printer is equipped with an 0.4 mm hardened steel nozzle than can handle temperatures of up to 350 ºC as well as fiber-reinforced materials due to its abrasion resistance. This design, combined with the high flow hotend and an 80 W ceramic heating element, allows the printer to achieve high temperatures much faster, and achieve maximum flow rates of up to 1100 mm³/s with maximum acceleration of up to 40000 mm/s².

Smart assistance and AI Lidar

To match the high efficiency provided by the high printing speed, FLSUN has equipped the S1 3D printer with numerous smart assitance features that make the 3D printing workflow even more user-friendly and more efficient. Thus, The S1 printer counts with an automatic bed leveling sensor, automatic Z-axis compensation, a filament detection sensor (runout, clogging, amount), as well as the active vibration compensation sensor mentioned earlier, and dynamic material monitoring sensors. Furthermore, to ensure energy efficiency, the S1 printer has a power loss resume function, smart zone heating for the buildplate (inner Ø 220 mm, outer Ø 220-320 mm), as well as a screen auto sleep function and a printer auto power-off function. What's more, the S1 printer is equipped with a status indication light.

Equipped with an AI Lidar, The S1 3D printer is capable of detecting problems with the first layer, as well as calibrating accuracy and flow. The integrated AI camera enables the users to not only remotely monitor the printing progress in real time but also record time-lapse videos of the printing session. The AI camera also detects printing problems as they occurs and alerts the user of debris detection or the spaghetti effect. The S1 3D printer is equipped with a fully integrated color touchscreen that allows the user to perform maintenance and control the printing process (also possible through the PC interface). The S1 printer is compatible with the MacOS X (10.7+) and Windows (7+) operating systems, and .stl, .obj, .amf, and .3mf laminating formats. The offered connectivity are USB, Ethernet and WiFi and the supported laminating software are FLSUN Slicer and third party slicers for greater workflow flexibility. To ensure the printer's optimal performance, the upgrades are performed over-the-air via an internet connection. The printer offers 16 GB of EMMC storage and additional 32 GB on a USB flash disk.

In order to ensure optimal material quality and thus reduce potential downtime due to humid filament, FLSUN decided to equip the S1 3D printer with an integrated filament drying compartment above the build chamber, with constant temperature and humidity monitoring. The filament drying box can accomodate 1 spool of filament with the maximum dimensions of 215 x 97 mm. This feature is especially valuable when hygroscopic materials such as PA, PVA or TPU are used.
