ASA with a sparkly surface finish. Ideal for UV-resistant parts for outdoor use.

This PolyLite Galaxy ASA filament by Polymaker belongs to the PolyLite family of filaments designed for reliability and ease of printing. This ASA filament was designed for the 3D printing of parts with a captivating glittery surface finish inspired by a the appearance of a galaxy. This stunning filament is available in spools of 1 kg, diameter of 1.75 mm, and in vibrant colors such as black, red, green and blue.

The galaxy effect, also referred to as sparkles or glitter filament, is a captivating embellishment achieved by infusing fine metallic or holographic particles into a base filament material. This infusion of particles not only adds a touch of shimmer and brilliance but also imparts a sense of depth and dimensionality to the finished printed parts. By intertwining these shimmering elements with the base filament material, the resulting prints exhibit a mesmerizing visual allure, reminiscent of a distant starry sky or the twinkling of celestial bodies.

ASA filament is known for its excellent UV resistance, high heat resistance, and superior mechanical properties, making it ideal for outdoor and engineering applications in 3D printing. The PolyLite ASA offers all those properties and is an excellent alternative to ABS filament since parts 3D printed with ASA offer comparable mechanical performance but do not fade when exposed to the elements for long periods of time and resist environmental stress cracking way better than ABS. Furthermore, ASA parts tend to have more matte surface finish with stlightly less visible layer lines.

The PolyLite Galaxy ASA filament is particularly well-suited for the additive manufacturing of parts destined for outdoor use such as decorative plant pots, garden tools, outdoor decorations or any parts that will be exposed to the elements for prolonged periods of time and also need some degree of mechanical and thermal resistance. Whether employed in artistic projects to create visually stunning decorative pieces or in functional parts to add a touch of uniqueness, the galaxy effect filament elevates the overall impact of 3D printed creations by infusing them with an extra layer of sophistication and charm.

Although it is not absolutely necessary, the use of an enclosed 3D printer or even a chamber that is actively heated may be beneficial with the PolyLite Galaxy ASA filament, especially for medium and big prints. Should any adhesion problems occur, it is advised to use adhesive solutions such as Magigoo or BuildTak, especially for big parts to avoid warping. If the filament absorbs too much moisture, it should be dried for 6 hours at 70 ºC in a professional filament dryer. For storage and printing, the PolyBox can be used to keep the filament dry. For printing more complex parts, the PolyDissolve S2 soluble support filament is recommended.

Elongation at break (%) 7
Tensile strength (MPa) 44
Tensile modulus (MPa) 2379
Flexural strength (MPa) 73
Flexural modulus (MPa) 3206
Softening temperature (ºC) 105

The recommended printing temperature for the PolyLite Galaxy ASA filament ranges between 240 and 260 ºC, and the best bed temperature is 75-95 ºC. The recommended printing speed is 30-50 mm/s.

Proper storage of the PolyLite PolyLite Galaxy ASA filament is essential, as processing damp filament can lead to polymer chain degradation, fragility, poor layer adhesion, stringing, and oozing. It's best to store the filament in a sealed bag with desiccant or in a vacuum-sealed filament container.
