This PolyLite Galaxy ABS filament by Polymaker belongs to the PolyLite family of filaments designed for reliability and ease of printing. This ABS filament was designed for the 3D printing of parts with a captivating glittery surface finish inspired by a the appearance of a galaxy. This stunning filament is available in spools of 1 kg, diameter of 1.75 mm, and in complimenting colors such as orange, purple, dark grey or teal.

The glitter incorporated into the ABS base creates a captivating sparkly surface finish

The galaxy effect, also referred to as sparkles or glitter filament, is a captivating embellishment achieved by infusing fine metallic or holographic particles into a base filament material. This infusion of particles not only adds a touch of shimmer and brilliance but also imparts a sense of depth and dimensionality to the finished printed parts. By intertwining these shimmering elements with the base filament material, the resulting prints exhibit a mesmerizing visual allure, reminiscent of a distant starry sky or the twinkling of celestial bodies. For an extra smooth effect, the parts can be post-processed by smoothing with the help of acetone and the Zortrax Apoller machine.

ABS filament is known for its durability, impact resistance, and ability to withstand higher temperatures compared to other common 3D printing materials. The PolyLite ABS utilizes a specialized bulk-polymerized ABS raw material, featuring notably reduced volatile content in contrast to standard ABS, resulting in superb print quality and minimal odor emission throughout the printing process.

The PolyLite Galaxy ABS filament is particularly well-suited for the additive manufacturing of functional prototypes, robotics components, mechanical parts, or spare parts for home appliances, due to its ability to impart a visually captivating aesthetic while maintaining structural integrity and durability. Whether employed in artistic projects to create visually stunning decorative pieces or in functional prototypes to add a touch of uniqueness, the galaxy effect filament elevates the overall impact of 3D printed creations by infusing them with an extra layer of sophistication and charm.

In order to achieve the best results with the PolyLite Galaxy ABS filament, the manufacturer recommends the use of an enclosed 3D printer or even a chamber that is actively heated, especially for medium (~40-50 ºC) and big prints (~70 ºC or higher). Should any adhesion problems occur, it is advised to use adhesive solutions such as Magigoo or BuildTak, especially for big parts to avoid warping. If the filament absorbs too much moisture, it should be dried for 6 hours at 70 ºC in a professional filament dryer. For storage and printing, the PolyBox can be used to keep the filament dry. For printing more complex parts, the PolyDissolve S2 soluble support filament is recommended.

The recommended printing temperature for the PolyLite Galaxy ABS filament ranges between 245 and 265 ºC, and the best bed temperature is 90-100 ºC. The recommended printing speed is 30-50 mm/s and for medium and bigger parts an enclosed printer should be used to avoid warping (40-70 ºC).

Proper storage of the PolyLite PolyLite Galaxy ABS filament is essential, as processing damp filament can lead to polymer chain degradation, fragility, poor layer adhesion, stringing, and oozing. It's best to store the filament in a sealed bag with desiccant or in a vacuum-sealed filament container.
