Industrial Delta 3D printer with a closed chamber, an inbuilt dual filament dryer and an HD camera.

The MP400 open materials Delta 3D printer is part of the Mass Portal family of high quality industrial 3D printers. It is a closed 3D printer with a build volume of Ø400 mm by 400 mm, maximum printing speed of 250 mm/s, positioning accuracy of 6 µ and layer resolution of up to 50 µ. It is equipped with automatic bed leveling, overheating protection, and a single nozzle detachable Bowden Pro extrusion system with an all metal hotend and Dual Grip feeder.

Another valuable feature of the MP400 3D printer is the integrated dual filament dryer with the Mass Portal rotating desiccant disc technology, and feed switchover with a filament runout sensor. The chamber is equipped with active air filters responsible for limiting the amount of escaping fumes and particles. The printing chamber is illuminated and closed with a tempered glass door. The build plate of the MP400 3D printer is made of glass and it can heat up to a maximum temperature of 120 ºC in just 5 minutes.

The fan cooled extrusion system (an Ø 0.8 mm brass nozzle included) can work at temperatures of up to 300 ºC and it is most suitable for 1.75 mm filaments such as ABS, TPU/TPE and PLA. The all metal feeder significantly reduces the risk of filament slipping, allows for precise control of the feeding process and does not overheat during operation. As far as part cooling, the MP400 3D printer has 3 fans responsible for that. Thanks to the inbuilt filament dryers, the MP400 3D printer will also give great results with challenging moisture sensitive materials, for example PC, PVA, Nylon (PA) or TPU.

The all metal feeder

The dual filament dryer integrated into the MP400 3D printer can fit two 1 kg spools (Ø 200 mm x 80 mm). The filament dryer uses the same drying system as the FD1 and FD5 filament dryers. The entering ambient air passes through filters and a rotating desiccant disk, thus getting pre-dehumidified. Next, it is heated, and it moves on to the filament spool, circulating it and drying it. The air, now containing humidity from the filament, passes through heaters on its way out. The heated air passes through the desiccant disk, regenerating the desiccant, and then it makes its way out, passing through filters once more.

The drying process

The drying (if the Mass Portal filament dryers FD1 or FD5 are used) and 3D printing process can be managed through a straightforward touchscreen 7” HD user interface located on top of the 3D printer’s front. There the 3D printing and drying parameters can be chosen, edited and created.

This can also be done with the help of the FabControl Platform, just like with all Mass Portal 3D printers and peripherals. The MP400 3D printer has USB 2.0, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity. The latter allows the user to access the FabControl platform. Another interesting feature of the MP400 3D printer is the inbuilt HD web camera that allows the user to remotely monitor the 3D printing process. The interface for the camera can be accessed from FabControl Cloud.

The MP400 industrial 3D printer by Mass Portal is not only fast and precise but it also offers the user a straightforward and safe 3D printing experience, with a lot of freedom in terms of the chosen materials, and printing and drying parameters. The integrated filament dryers ensure an improved process stability and allow the user to work even with very moisture sensitive materials. The carefully designed extrusion system is compatible with a wide range of 3D printing materials, including flexible filaments. The MP400 3D printer will be a valuable addition to any industrial 3D printing workflow.

The glass printing bed of the MP400 3D printer should be regularly cleaned to remove glue or filament residue. First, firm and even pressure should be applied with a scraper to remove solid residue. Next, the glass can be cleaned with warm soapy water but only if the build plate can be removed from the 3D printer. Otherwise, the build surface should be wiped with a cloth soaked with a small amount of IPA alcohol or acetone before each printing session. Thorough cleaning should be done approximately once a month or according to needs. Whenever IPA alcohol or acetone are handled, the user should wear protective gloves, not only to protect the user’s skin but also to avoid leaving greasy fingerprints on the glass build surface.

Adhesion of the 3D printed part to the glass printing surface can be improved with the application of the right adhesive product. The DimaFix or 3DLac adhesive sprays or the liquid adhesives with applicators such as Magigoo, 3DLac Stick or the Smart Stick, are some examples of the adhesion products compatible with the MP400 3D printer. It should be kept in mind that adhesive sprays are not safe for air transport, and adhesive sticks should be chosen in their stead if air transport is required.
