Industrial Delta 3D printer with HT Bowden dual extrusion, filament dryer and automatic bed leveling.

The D1200 Craig open materials 3D printer is part of the Mass Portal industrial Delta 3D printer family, together with the MP400, MP600 and D1200 printers. The illuminated closed chamber has a build volume of Ø 540 mm by 580 mm and air and active carbon filters. The positioning accuracy of the D1200 Craig printer is 6 µ, the layer resolution is 50 µ, and a maximum printing speed is 150 mm/s. The all metal Bowden (detachable) dual nozzle hotend comes with Ø 0.4 mm brass nozzles suitable for 1.75 mm filaments.

The extrusion system has a maximum extrusion temperature of 475 ºC and gives the user the possibility to print 2 materials or 2 colors at the same time. The hotend has the following characteristics:

Filament diameter Nº of nozzles Max. extrusion temperature Hotend cooling Part cooling
Pro HT Bowden 1.75 mm 2 75 ºC Liquid 2 fans

The high extrusion temperature makes it possible to 3D print a very broad range of materials, from PLA, ABS, ASA, Nylon, PC, HIPS and PET to flexibles and high temperature thermoplastics, with support materials or 2 colors.

The Dual Grip feeder is also made of metal, which significantly reduces the risk of filament slipping. This means the feeder does not overheat and makes it easy to precisely control the feeding process. Thanks to the dual integrated filament dryer, the D1200 Craig 3D printer will also do well with challenging moisture sensitive materials such as Nylon, PC and TPU.

The inbuilt dual filament dryer uses the same operating principle as the Mass Portal filament dryers - the rotating desiccant disk technology. Upon entering the dryer, the air is filtered, pre-dehumidified and heated. The dehumidified hot circulates the spool and dries the filament. On its way out, the moisture-infused air is heated again and it passes through the desiccant disk, regenerating the desiccant. This means that the desiccant does not require replacing. As the air leaves the drying chamber, it passes through the filters once more. The dual dryer in the D1200 Craig 3D printer can fit two 5 kg spools (Ø 300 mm x 100 mm).

The enclosed active (optional) chamber of the D1200 Craig printer can reach a temperature of up to 80 ºC and is equipped with active air filters responsible for limiting the amount of escaping fumes and particles. Closed printing chambers help reduce warping and improve printing results with materials such as ABS or Nylon. Just like in all Mass Portal 3D printers, the build plate of the D1200 Craig 3D printer is made of glass and it can heat up to a maximum temperature of 120 ºC in just 5 minutes.

The drying and 3D printing process can be managed through a straightforward touchscreen 7” HD user interface located on top of the 3D printer’s front. There the 3D printing and drying parameters can be chosen, edited and created. This can also be done with the help of the FabControl Platform, just like with all Mass Portal 3D printers and peripherals. Files can be transferred using WiFi, USB 2.0 or Ethernet.

User interface

The FabControl platform allows the user to store all printing and drying information in a centralized way as well as receive notifications. The FabControl platform also makes it possible to check the g-code on screen before printing and override it. It is also possible to access printing workflows with embedded slicing profiles. The D1200 Craig 3D printer is automation ready, which means that thanks to the cloud system it can be highly automated and remotely managed, for example as part of a 3D printer farm.

The D1200 Craig industrial 3D printer by Mass Portal is not only capable of working with many polymer classes, including the high temperature and moisture sensitive ones, but it also makes it possible to 3D print multimaterial and multicolor complex structures thanks to the dual nozzle setup. The D1200 Craig 3D printer is fast, precise, easy to use, and it allows for full control of the 3D printing and drying process in various modes. The D1200 Craig 3D printer can prove a versatile and powerful asset in any industrial 3D printer fleet or printer farm.

The glass printing bed of the D1200 Craig 3D printer should be regularly cleaned to remove glue or filament residue. First, firm and even pressure should be applied with a scraper to remove solid residue. Next, the glass can be cleaned with warm soapy water but only if the build plate can be removed from the 3D printer. Otherwise, the build surface should be wiped with a cloth soaked with a small amount of IPA alcohol or acetone before each printing session. Thorough cleaning should be done approximately once a month or according to needs. Whenever IPA alcohol or acetone are handled, the user should wear protective gloves, not only to protect the user’s skin but also to avoid leaving greasy fingerprints on the glass build surface.

Adhesion of the 3D printed part to the glass printing surface can be improved with the application of the right adhesive product. The DimaFix or 3DLac adhesive sprays or the liquid adhesives with applicators such as Magigoo, 3DLac Stick or the Smart Stick, are some examples of the adhesion products compatible with the D1200 Craig 3D printer. It should be kept in mind that adhesive sprays are not safe for air transport, and adhesive sticks should be chosen in their stead if air transport is required.
