The creation of complex structures and geometries with the FDM 3D printing technology may require the use of support structures and support materials. The most common support materials such as HIPS or BVOH may not always be suitable, especially in combination with high temperature engineering filaments such as PEEK, PEKK or ULTEM. The Essentium B20 support filament, designed with the Essentium 9085 ULTEM in mind, is the answer to that problem.

Essentium B20 is a high-temperature break-away support material that provides good visual contrast between the support structure and the principal build material and guarantees easy removal at room temperature. Any surface imperfections resulting from support removal can be fixed with the help of professional retouch tools:

Thanks to its compatibility with advanced high temperature 3D printing materials, the Essentium B20 support filament can be used for functional prototyping purposes or composite layup tooling in industries such as aerospace, rail transportation or defense.

When 3D printed, B20 filament can expose users to bisphenol A, so it is absolutely necessary to ensure proper ventilation of the printing area and to use appropriate protective equipment. B20 is a hygroscopic material, which means that it absorbs moisture from the air, causing a decrease in print quality. To keep the filament free of moisture, it is recommended to store the spools with a filament drying capsule or in a drying case. For best adhesion, Nano Polymer Adhesive, specially designed for high temperature materials, can be used. Detailed safety information on the Essentium B20 support filament can be found in the Downloads section.
