The PolyLite ASA filament from the Polymaker family of advanced materials is a reliable ASA filament characterized by exceptional quality, resistance to UV rays and outstanding mechanical properties. PolyLite ASA is an alternative to ABS with an improved weather resistance, which means that prototypes and parts 3D printed with PolyLite ASA can be used outdoors and their mechanical properties and color will not suffer as a result. This makes the PolyLite ASA filament perfect even for demanding engineering applications in harsh environments.

ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is an amorphous thermoplastic known for combining mechanical strength, UV resistance, water resistance and a great finish. Even though ASA is often compared to ABS, it is a superior material designed to keep its appearance and impact resistance even after being exposed to long periods of time in the open air, rain, cold and salt water of the sea. This is why ASA is so popular in applications such as housing parts (roof coverings), electrical installations (junction boxes), automobile parts (front grilles), toys, structural elements for outdoor use (pipes and construction profiles) and many more.

An additional advantage of the PolyLite ASA filament is its post processability. PolyLite ASA can be wet sanded or chemically smoothed with acetone to obtain a smoother surface. Nevertheless, the PolySmooth filament by Polymaker is recommended for the latter purpose since it can be smoothed with IPA alcohol (with the help of the PolySher mashine), which is a safer option than acetone. Furthermore, the PolyLite ASA filament can be used to create complex structures and geometries with the help of the PolyDissolve support filament.

Once again Polymaker delivers a versatile 3D printing filament made with the best raw materials. The exceptional quality and reliability, as well as the wide range of available colors and diameters, make the PolyLite ASA filament ideal for multiple applications even in harsh environments, for prototyping as well as end uses.

Complex structures can be 3D printed with the PolyLite ASA filament and a support filament, for example the PolyDissolve filament. A 3D printer with at least two extruders is required to print with supports

The recommended printing settings for the PolyLite ASA filament are a 240-260 ºC extrusion temperature at a speed of 30-50 mm/s, on a bed heated to 75-95 ºC, with the layer fan turned off (low fan for better surface quality and fan off for improved strength). As far as adhesion to the printing bed, the printing surface should always be kept clean and leveled. The recommended printing surface for the PolyLite ASA filament is a glass surface with glue such as Magigoo, or a BuildTak printing surface. In order to prevent clogging, the nozzle should be cleaned between material changes, for example with the Smart Clean filament. If any adhesion issues occur, the user can try the "brim" or "raft" settings in the slicing software.

The PolyLite ASA filament should be stored in its original resealable bag in order to prevent excess moisture absorption. Too much humidity is the biggest enemy of filaments and can result in printing failures as well as surface issues and worsened mechanical properties of the 3D printed parts. It is recommended to store PolyLite ASA in the PolyBox to prevent moisture absorption. If the filament absorbs too much moisture, it should be dried at 80 ºC for 8 hours.
