Material of great hardness, flexibility and chemical resistance, suitable for direct contact with food.

Fillamentum's PETG filament is a thermoplastic copolyester (polyethylene terephthalate glycol copolyester). Unlike PET filaments, it does not crystallize when heated, which gives it high strength, good hardness and good flexural resistance.

Furthermore, PETG is known for its degree of translucency (this depends on the colour of the filament), great printability comparable to PLA, and its good chemical resistance. In the case of the Fillamentum PETG, it is resistance to water, acids, alkalis and alcohols. PETG is also gaining a lot of popularity due to its low melting temperature and durability, making it a good alternative to any ABS or Nylon.

The Fillamentum PETG filaments are RoHS compliant as well as free of styrene and BPA (toxic to people when in contact with food). They have passed all official certifications and have been approved as a valid filament for direct food contact both in the EU as well as in the US (FDA*), except for the colors Black Essential, Yellow Essential, Vertigo Grey and Wizard's Voodoo.

This means the Fillamentum PETG can be used in cups, food containers as well as in kitchen utensils. Although not a bioplastic, the Fillamentum PETG is considered environmentally friendly as it is recyclable and does not produce odours when printed. Another interesting feature of the Fillamentum PETG filament is that it is safe to be used in electrical and electronic equipment thanks to its volume resistivity of 1016 Ω/cm.

Fillamentum's PETG demonstrates low shrinkage and great adhesion between layers and to the build plate. This makes it very easy to create 3D prints with large surfaces, recommendably with the help of Magigoo, PVA glue or 3DLac to facilitate the removal of the part and avoid damaging the build plate. With the Fillamentum PETG the warping effect is practically null. This ease of processing makes PETG one of the most common materials in the world of 3D printing, together with PLA.

The good thermomechanical properties of the Fillamentum PETG filament, as well as its good chemical resistance and the wide range of available colors and finished makes this material ideal for the manufacture of final parts that require good mechanical properties and chemical resistance. The parts can be printed in many colors and finishes to meet the needs of every project, and can be used in contact with food as well as in electric and electronic applications. The ease of printing and great dimensional stability will make the printing experience enjoyable and the results reliable.

*The FDA certificate is valid for the raw material, in this case Fillamentum's PETG filament. The food safety of 3D printed parts must be evaluated separately for each use case.

The ideal printing temperature for the Fillamentum PETG is between 235 ºC and 255 ºC on a bed heated to 65-75 ºC. If the Fillamentum PETG is printed at too high a temperature, bubbles may appear in the print and if printed at too low a temperature it may have a completely opaque finish. It is advisable to use the layer fan but at a maximum of 30 % since fast cooling can lead to improper layer bonding. For standard object no cooling fan is required. With bridges and overhangs the fan can be used at up to 50 %.

Fillamentum's PETG filament is suitable for any type of nozzle. As for the printing speed, it is advisable to print at 40-60 mm/s, although it can be printed slower for prints with a better finish. The shrinkage for a 0.5 mm nozzle is 2.5 mm; therefore, following this rule it can be applied to any nozzle ratio.

The PETG filament is characterized by excellent interlayer bonding and adhesion to the build surface. For this reason, in order to avoid damaging the build surface upon part removal, it is recommended to use the brim/skirt setting of 5 mm and apply an adhesive to the build surface (best PEI/glass), for example Magigoo, PVA glue or 3DLac.

It is crucial to store the PETG filaments properly as processing of moist filament may cause degradation of polymer chains, brittleness, poor layer adhesion, stringing and oozing. It is best to store the filament in a tightly sealed bag with a desiccant or in a vacuum sealed filament container. It is recommended to dry the filament for 4 hours at 65 ºC in a filament dryer before printing.
