The BioMed Durable resin from Formlabs' catalog of dental and medical sector resins is a biocompatible 3D printing material designed to create parts with good resistance to impact, breakage, and abrasion. The parts created with this resin are characterized by excellent transparency and a smooth surface finish. Its applications include the production of customized medical instruments and devices tailored to specific procedures and individual patients, allowing their creation directly at the medical facility. This capability reduces complications and shortens operating room time.

This resin is classified as USP Class VI and complies with ISO 13485 standards of the FDA, which authorizes its use in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors for long-term applications that come into contact with the skin for more than 30 days, with mucous membranes for more than 30 hours, and for short-term contact with tissues, bones, and dentin for less than 24 hours. It should be noted that it is the responsibility of manufacturers and their respective customers and end-users to evaluate the biocompatibility and performance of all printed components for their intended applications and uses (see the Related Posts tab).

The BioMed Durable resin has an Izod impact strength of 98 J/m, a tensile strength of 29 MPa, and a tensile modulus of 994 MPa, ensuring solid performance under stress. With an elongation at break of 33%, it offers flexibility to withstand deformation without cracking. The resin also has a flexural strength of 21 MPa, a flexural modulus of 643 MPa, and a Shore hardness of 75D, providing a durable yet slightly flexible surface. It is important to note that the material properties may vary depending on various factors such as part geometry, orientation, print settings, temperature, and disinfection or sterilization methods used.
