A dental model is a physical replica of the patient’s oral cavity prepared for the purpose of surgery planning or as a blueprint for the preparation of an aligner or any other dental device. The KeyModel Ultra resin from the KeyPrint line was designed specifically for the 3D printing of dental and orthodontic models and it makes a perfect match with the KeyMask resin for the creation of realistically looking dental models.

The KeyModel Ultra resin was developed in collaboration with Loctite, a brand known internationally for its domestic use and industrial adhesives. The fruit of that collaboration is an ultrafast resin that delivers dental models with flawless surface detail, carvable without chipping and, most importantly, ideal for thermoforming. This is because the KeyModel Ultra resin contains a release agent that ensures easy removal of the 3D printed model from the thermoforming sheet.

Just like all KeyPrint resins, the KeyModel Ultra dental resin can be printed on any validated resin 3D printer, for example the Stratasys, Uniz, Flashforge or Phrozen 3D printers to name just a few. This degree of freedom in terms of equipment choice makes the KeyModel Ultra resin a very versatile and user-friendly material, as it does not require major adjustments or investments. The full list of compatible 3D printers can be consulted in the Downloads section.

With the KeyModel Ultra dental resin, KeyPrint once again delivers a state of the art solution for the dental sector. To raise the bar even higher, KeyPrint partnered with Loctite to boost this resin’s properties and make it especially apt for the production of dental guards via thermoforming. The high compatibility with some of the best resin 3D printers on the market gives the user flexibility in terms of equipment and helps create an effortless 3D printing workflow.

Before use, the KeyModel Ultra resin should be tempered to ambient temperature (20-25°C) and the bottle should be well agitated for about 5 minutes in order to prevent color deviations and print failures due to insufficient resin mixing. If bubbles are present, they should be removed with a clean spatula.

The KeyPrint KeyModel Ultra resin should be stored in a cool, dry place and away from light. Precautions should be taken at all times to ensure user safety. It is recommended to use protective gloves and garments, and a face screen to prevent burns caused by hot resin.

All KeyPrint resins should only be used in accordance with the product-specific predetermined settings for the user’s DLP 3D printer with a 385-405 nm UV light source. Any other equipment requires validation by the manufacturer.

Within 8 hours from the completion of the print, the part should be cleaned with IPA alcohol (at least 97%) in a preliminary bath (no longer than 5 minutes) and then transferred to fresh IPA for the second bath, just like shown in video 1. Compressed air can be used to dry the part, looking for residual liquid resin, which will be visible as it remains glossy. Residual resin should be removed by washing and drying the part again, until there is no more resin residue.

Lastly, the part should be placed in a curing machine (flat to prevent warping). The validated cure box settings can be consulted on the manufacturer’s website. Once cured, the parts should be allowed to cool down completely inside the curing machine before they are removed, otherwise warping can occur.
