The DMD-21 resin from AmeraLabs is a premium, fast-curing material developed for the precise additive manufacturing of dental models in a sand color (LAB 78;6;18). Thanks to its low viscosity this resin offers easy post-processing and a high-resolution surface. The minimal shrinkage (less than 0.9%) ensures maximum dimensional accuracy and stability, making it ideal for meeting the stringent requirements of professional model production. The rapid curing properties of the DMD-21 resin contribute to overall faster model creation and reduced production costs.

This resin is particularly well-suited for a variety of dental applications, including implant-supported and tooth-borne fixed restoration models, digital wax-ups, and the precise printing of removable dies and alveolar model bases, such as the Willi Geller model. Additionally, it is an excellent choice for orthodontic and study models. With a high hardness rating of 90 Shore D, DMD-21 resin maintains sharp edges and captures even the smallest details, while its rigidity prevents support structures from bending during printing. This stability enhances the success rate of complex prints, ensuring models stay in place throughout the entire printing process.

Compatible with a range of LED/LCD 3D printers that operate with 405-420 nm UV light sources, the DMD-21 resin performs efficiently on both low-powered and more advanced monochrome LCD printers. Some examples of compatible 3D printers include the Anycubic Photon Mono M5s, Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra, and UniZ SLASH 2. For a complete list of validated equipment and recommended printing parameters, users can refer to the detailed guidelines provided on the AmeraLabs website.

Printing

For those who are only beginning their adventure with resin 3D printing, we recommend reading the Beginner's Guide to AmeraLabs resins as well as referring to the troubleshooting guide prepared by AmeraLabs in case any problems occur while 3D printing with the DMD-21 resin.

Detailed information on the printing and post-processing workflow with the DMD-21 resin can be found in the product’s technical datasheet in the Attachments section.

Post-processing

Parts 3D printed with the DMD-21 resin will achieve their specific properties only after being subjected to post-processing by washing and curing.

Washing

AmeraLabs recommends using IPA alcohol for the washing and the washing time will largely depend on the washing equipment used. If a washing station is used, the average washing time is 6 minutes and a second wash of 6 minutes if required. If an ordinary bucket system and manual cleaning are used, the parts should be submerged for 2 minutes, swirled for 2 minutes, submerged for another 2 minutes in IPA, and swirled again for 2 minutes. If an ultrasonic cleaner is used, it is recommended not to go over 10 minutes of cleaning.

Post-curing

Once washed, the parts 3D printed with the DMD-21 resin must be dried and cured immediately either with the help of a curing station (with our without supports). The recommended curing times will depend on the used equipment but can range from anywhere between 5 to 60 minutes. The rule of thumb is that parts should be cured until not sticky anymore and until the surface is very hard to scratch.

Safety

Certain precautions must be taken when working with 3D printing resins. The user must ensure that the working space is adequately ventilated, and that protective gear such as goggles, gloves and garments are worn at all times. The DMD-21 resin should be stored in a tightly closed container/resin vat to avoid resin deterioration due to UV exposure. The container/vat should be kept in a cool, well ventilated area away from heat, sparks and open flame. To get a better idea of how to work with the AmeraLabs resins safely, please read the manufacturer's blog post on the most common resin safety myths.
