The 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament is an advanced ESD-safe filament by 3DxTech. It is formulated from premium high-flow ABS compounded with carbon using the proprietary 3DxTech multi-wall carbon nanotube technology. The 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament was designed for critical applications that require electrostatic discharge protection and thermal stability up to 95°C. The careful and meticulous formulation and outstanding manufacturing conditions make the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament's properties consistent, offering exceptional repeatability and reliability of the 3D printed parts.

ABS is an engineering plastic formed by acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. Those three building blocks give ABS many valuable properties, such as rigidity, resistance to high temperatures and chemicals, as well as tenacity in cold environments. Furthermore, ABS can be easily post-processed by sanding, painting, gluing or direct machining. All these properties make ABS an extremely popular and versatile 3D printing material.

The 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament offers numerous thermomechanical advantages as a 3D printing material. It is characterized by improved retention of impact and elongation, low particulate contamination, as well as minimal contribution to outgassing and ionic contamination. Furthermore, the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament has a higher melting point and better thermal properties than PLA or PETG. This combination of thermomechanical features creates a material easier to print than most industrial-grade materials but still capable of producing durable and sturdy parts on practically any compatible 3D printer on the market.

An interesting feature of the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament is that the surface resistance of the printed part will vary depending on the printer’s extruder temperature. If the part is too insulative, increasing the extruder temperature will result in improved conductivity, and the other way around. It should be kept in mind that this effect will largely depend on the 3D printer used as well as on the part thickness, orientation, etc. This is why the data in the table should be taken only as a reference point for own experiments with the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS material.

There are many potential applications for the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament. It is perfect for both hobbyist and industrial prototyping or end-use parts. It can be used to 3D print semi-conductive HDD components, jigs, casings, connectors or in wafer handling, as well as in industrial conveying, metering and sensing applications.

The 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament should be stored properly in order to prevent it from absorbing excess moisture. Humidity is the biggest enemy of filaments as it can result in extrusion problems, poor surface quality of the 3D printed part and a deterioration in its mechanical properties. The best way to store the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament is in a sealed bag with desiccant, in a vacuum sealed container or in an intelligent filament container. During printing, the Fiber Three drying case can be used. If the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament absorbs too much moisture, it should dried in a filament dryer for 4 hours at 80 ºC.

The 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament should be printed at a temperature of 220-240 ºC, on a bed heated to 100-110 ºC. It is also recommended to use a 3D printed with a heated chamber if possible as it can help prevent warping. Another way to prevent warping and improve adhesion of the 3D printed part to the printing surface (especially with large parts) is to use the Magigoo adhesive.

Resistivity is greatly affected by temperature and printing speed. In case the resistivity values ​​of the part are too high, it is recommended to increase the printing temperature and reduce the speed.

The recommended support filament for the 3DXSTAT ESD ABS filament is the AquaTek X1 UMS filament by 3DxTech.
