Pellets filled with wood fibers for decorative parts with a wood surface finish and texture.

These LayWoo-D3 pellets by Kai Parthy are an FGF 3D printing material to be used for direct extrusion or filament production. The Kai Parthy LayWoo-D3 pellets have a brown color and are made from the same material as the LayWoo-D3 filament - wood fibers and a binding polymer.

Parts 3D printed with the LayWoo-D3 pellets mimic the surface finish and texture of real wood and can be processed as such - by sanding or painting. It is also possible to slightly darken or lighten the color of the part by, respectively, increasing or decreasing the extrusion temperature (180-250 ºC). Thanks to these features the LayWoo-D3 pellets are perfect for decorative applications.

The LayWoo-D3 pellets have a size of 2-3 mm and are best processed on the Mahor V4 pellet extruder or the Tumaker 3D printers for direct extrusion onto a printing surface. It is also possible to make filament from the LayWoo-D3 pellets with the help of the Felfil EVO extruder or Filastruder.

It is very important to store LayWoo-D3 pellets properly in an airtight bag to prevent them from absorbing moisture from the environment before use. If the pellets have moisture in them, the resulting parts or filament may contain small imperfections.

The wood fibers in the LayWoo-D3 pellets may increase the risk of nozzle clogging, which is why the manufacturer recommends using a nozzle of at least 0.35 mm (best 0.5 mm) and a direct drive printer to avoid clogging and deformation. The recommended extrusion temperatures are between 180-250 ºC but going below 200 ºC involves the risk of jamming the extruder. It is recommended to use a printer with a heated bed (40ºC) with some Kapton Tape or 3DLac to avoid warping. Once the printing is done, some cleaning pellets should be used to remove any remaining LayWoo-D3 from the extruder.
