Mass Portal MP40 - FDM 3D printer

MP40-3D-PRINTER

The MP40 FFF/FDM 3D printer by Mass Portal, a Latvian designer and manufacturer of high quality 3D printers and peripherals, is a Delta 3D printer. Its unique mechanics and structure make it ideal for fast high accuracy 3D printing. The printhead of the MP40 3D printer can travel at a speed of 250 mm/s, reaching an XYZ accuracy of 6-6-5 µ and an ultimate layer resolution of 50 µ.

The MP40 3D printer has a closed illuminated printing chamber with a build volume of Ø 400 mm x 400 mm. The chamber is equipped with multiple fans to improve the layer cooling efficiency. A valuable safety feature are the air and active carbon filters that prevent the fumes and microparticles from escaping the chamber.

Printhead

The MP40 printhead is equipped with an automatic calibration feature and a filament sensor. Both these features avoid failed 3D prints caused by incorrect printhead position or the lack of filament. The Bowden style extrusion system has an all metal hotend (0.4 mm nozzle included) and feeder, and it is equipped with an overheating protection system. If overheating is detected, the 3D printing process will be automatically paused, thus avoiding the extrusion system from being damaged and the safety of the user being endangered.

The glass printing bed

The MP40 hotend was designed to work with 1.75 mm filaments at temperatures of up to 300 ºC. This makes it possible to extrude materials as varied as PLA, ABS, ASA, PET(g), Nylon, PC, PP or TPU/TPE. The round glass printing bed of the MP40 3D printer is compatible with various bed adhesion products. It takes the printing bed only 5 minutes to heat up to a temperature of up to 120 ºC.

The 3D printing process as well as the filament drying process (if the Mass Portal filament dryers FD1 or FD5 are used) can be controlled, configured and monitored from the integrated touchscreen user interface or through the FabControl AM Platform, just like with all Mass Portal 3D printers and peripherals.

The user interface

The FabControl platform also sends status notifications to the user, informing about the end of the printing session as well as any occurrences during the printing process. The MP40 3D printer has USB 2.0, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity. The latter allows the user to access the FabControl platform.

The MP40 3D printer by Mass Portal is a valuable tool for both professional and beginner users. The straightforward user interface, various connectivity options and safety solutions make the MP40 3D printer safe and convenient to use even in domestic conditions, contributing to a smooth and efficient 3D printing workflow. A wide range of filaments can be used with the MP40 3D printer thanks to its high maximum extrusion temperature and its fast heating glass building platform designed for operating at up to 120 ºC. The potential extrusion and quality problems related to humidity in filaments can be avoided when the MP40 3D printer is used together with the FD1 and FD5 filament dryers.

The MP40 3D printer has a glass printing bed which should be regularly cleaned of any glue or filament residue. First, any residue should be gently removed with a scraper by applying firm and even pressure. Next, the glass can be cleaned with warm soapy water but only if it can be removed from the 3D printer. If the glass bed cannot be removed from the printer, it should be wiped with a cloth soaked with a small amount of IPA alcohol or acetone before each printing session and cleaned thoroughly approximately once a month or according to needs. Whenever IPA alcohol or acetone are handled, the user should wear protective gloves, not only to protect the user’s skin but also to avoid leaving greasy fingerprints on the glass build surface.

Adhesion of the 3D printed part to the glass printing surface of the MP40 3D printer can be improved with the application of the right adhesive product. There are many adhesive products available for glass surfaces, for example the DimaFix or 3DLac adhesive sprays or the liquid adhesives with applicators - Magigoo, 3DLac Stick or the Smart Stick adhesives. Adhesive sticks with applicators are safer for air transport.
