PLA (Polylactic Acid) stands as a versatile and widely used material in 3D printing thanks to its low warping tendencies, great adhesion, low printing temperatures, vibrant color options and odor-free extrusion. PLA is also renowned for its biodegradability since it is derived from renewable resources, typically corn starch or sugarcane, making it an eco-friendly choice. What's more, this particular PLA Starter is certified for contact with food, which means it can be used to 3D print kitchen utensils, containers, and other objects that come into direct or indirect contact with food (certificate in Downloads). It should be kept in mind that the obligation to certify parts 3D printed with the PLA Starter filament rests with the manufacturer of the end product.

How to use the Rosa3D masterspool with the refill filament

The eco-friendly refill format significantly reduces plastic usage and contributes to paving a way for sustainable 3D printing. In order to use this PLA Starter with a 3D printer, the filament must be wound onto the Rosa3D Masterspool, a smart solution designed specially for the Rosa3D filaments in refill format. This reusable masterspool is made of recycled PC and has an approximately 90 % lower CO2 carbon footprint compared to a standard plastic spool. The masterspool is also resistant to impact and heat, which makes it compatible with filament dryers, as well as AMS systems. Alternatively, solutions such as the F2P variable spool holder can be used.

The recommended printing temperature for the PLA Starter filament ranges between 190-225 ºC, and the best bed temperature is 40-60 ºC. The recommended part cooling fan setting is 70-100 %.

Proper storage of the PLA Starter filament is essential, as processing damp filament can lead to polymer chain degradation, fragility, poor layer adhesion, stringing, and oozing. It's best to store the filament in a sealed bag with desiccant or in a vacuum-sealed filament container.

Should the filament absorb excess humidity, it should be dried in a filament dryer for 4 hours at 50 ºC.
