The Hyper Speed PLA filament was developed by Raise3D as part of the high-speed line for FFF printing. The main feature of this filament is that when used with the Hyper Speed Upgrade KIt (HUK3) for the Pro3 series, it can print within the impressive range of 150-300 mm/s (vs. 50-150 mm/s without the Hyper FFF upgrade) with acceleration of 10000 mm/s2 and yet still maintain high quality. In the words of the manufacturer, The Hyper Speed filaments offer 100 % the quality and 300 % the productivity.

Whenever standard PLA is extruded at high speeds (rapidly fed into the heat block), the polymer has very little time to pass from solid to molten state, which can cause nozzle clogging and poor bonding quality between layers. With the Hyper Speed PLA, Raise3D has intended to solve this problem by optimizing the molecular weight and tuning the flowability of the PLA.

This way, Hyper Speed PLA is able to achieve faster melting in the hot end and much faster cooling after the material is extruded. As a result of the upgrades, the surface quality of parts printed with the Hyper Speed PLA filaments is smooth and most of the sharp details are kept. Thanks to optimized molecular weight, Hyper Speed PLA also shows excellent interlayer bonding quality and Z-direction strength.

The Premium PLA filament vs. the Hyper Speed PLA filament

According to Raise3D statistics, when prototyping is 200 % faster, design iterations can be completed within a day, the yield of a 3D printer increases to up to over 4 times, and the lead time for a single part is 66 % shorter. When the Hyper Speed filaments are used in small batch production, the productivity increases by even 500 %, shortening the response time from weeks to days. As far as in-house supply, using the Hyper Speed filaments can lead to even 1000 % increases in productivity. Thanks to its high speed extrusion capabilities, excellent mechanical properties of the parts and their great surface finish, Hyper Speed PLA can be used for the purposes of rapid prototyping, the printing of concept models and figures, to make manufacturing aids or even in art and scultpure applications, and in education and visualization.

It must be kept in mind that in order to extrude with the Hyper Speed PLA filamet at speeds of over 150 mm/s, it is necessary to be using the Pro 3 or Pro 3 Plus 3D printers with the Hyper Speed Upgrade Kit installed and the Hyper Speed Mode in ideaMaker set (the most recent version ideaMaker 4.4.0 Alpha must be installed).

It is recommended to print the Raise3D Hyper Speed PLA at a temperature of 200-230 °C at 50-300 mm/s, on a bed heated to 45-60 °C with the layer fan on. To print in the 150-300 mm/s range, it is necessary to install the Hyper Speed Upgrade Kit.

This filament should be dried at 40°C for approximately 8 hours before printing in a filament dryer. Despite the low moisture absorption properties of this filament, it should be stored properly, preferably in a vacuum sealed container or in a sealed bag with a desiccant capsule until use or in a drying case, such as the Fiber Three drying case.

ideaMaker print profiles for Hyper Speed PLA filament are available on the ideaMaker website.
