Professional PLA filament with increased rigidity and impact strength, and excellent printability.

The PolyLite PLA PRO filament from the Polymaker portfolio is a first of its kind material combining high toughness and high rigidity. It is a high quality professional PLA that offers engineering properties with the ease of print of regular PLA. The PLA PRO has six times the impact strength of PolyLite PLA, which widens the range of possible applications for this filament.

A comparison of the PLA materials offered by Polymaker

The PolyLite PLA PRO is composed of polylactic acid, a substance resulting from the fermentation of sugars contained in plants such as beets, sugarcane or corn. This means that PLA PRO is biodegradable and compostable, and does not emit fumes or noxious odors when extruded.

Biodegradability and compostability are not its only advantages, since the PLA PRO is very easy to print:

  • The use of a heated bed is not necessary (although recommended).
  • The extrusion temperatures are relatively low (between 190ºC and 220ºC).
  • Warping is almost non-existent with PLA PRO.
  • The softening temperature of PLA PRO is slightly increased (Polymaker Jam-Free technology), which results in higher thermal stability and fewer jams.

To add to the attractiveness of the PolyLite PLA PRO filament, it comes in environmentally friendly packaging made from recycled cardboard and with plastic packaging elements reduced to the minimum. Once the filament has been used, the spool can be recycled.

Polymaker's PolyLite PLA PRO is an ideal material for the manufacturing of non-functional but very visually attractive models and prototypes as well as hobbyistic use for the making of figurines and miniatures. As it is the case with most PLA materials, the PolyLite PLA PRO can be sanded, painted or even annealed, which makes the 3D printed parts personalizable and unique. This, together with the numerous vivid color options available for this material, makes the PLA PRO extremely versatile. The excellent mechanical properties combined with the quality surface finish, affordability and ease of printing make the PolyLite PLA PRO filament a tempting alternative to standard PLA.

The PolyLite PLA PRO should be printed at a temperature between 190 and 220 ºC on a bed heated to 30-60 °C. The recommended printing speed is 30-70 mm/s and it is recommended to turn the layer fan on with this filament. It is best to print the PolyLite PLA PRO on a glass surface with some adhesive (such as Magigoo or Blue Tape) or on a BuildTak surface. If the design involves complex structures of geometries, the PolyLite PLA PRO filament can be used together with the PolySupport filament on a 3D printer with double extrusion.

PolyLite PLA PRO is moderately hygroscopic. In case the filament contains more moisture than it should, it is recommended to dry the filament at 55 ºC for 6 hours in the Print Dry Pro filament dryer. Moisture can cause errors and even failed 3D print and to avoid this risk at all times, the filament should be stored in a dry environment in the self-sealing bag provided by Polymaker, or in a container with a filament drying capsule. During printing the spool should be placed in the Polybox storage box.
