Nylon with carbon fibers. Ideal for light and stiff technical parts with heat resistance.

The PA12 CF15 filament from Fiberlogy is a nylon 12 based material reinforced with 15% of carbon fibers. This innovative filament offers an array of exceptional features, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications. Furthermore, the PA12 CF15 filament by Fiberlogy has been favorably assessed to be part of the Open Filament Program by Raise3D. This makes it possible to extrude this filament on the E2CF 3D printer.

PA12 CF15 boasts impressive thermal resistance (up to 160 ºC), setting it apart from conventional PA12 filaments. Its ability to withstand high temperatures makes it well-suited for applications in demanding environments where heat tolerance is a critical factor. Unlike unmodified PA12, the PA12 CF15 filament from Fiberlogy exhibits minimal shrinkage during the printing process. This reduced shrinkage ensures that the printed components maintain their intended dimensions with precision and accuracy.

Another benefit of incorporating carbon fibers in the formula of the PA12 CF15 filaments is a weight reduction of the printed component with a complete preservation of the exceptional structural stiffness. This attribute is invaluable in applications where weight reduction is paramount without compromising on strength and rigidity (significantly higher than in unmodified PA12).

Thanks to its excellent mechanical and thermal properties, the Fiberlogy PA12 CF15 finds a wide spectrum of applications across various industries as a a viable lighter alternative to traditional metal elements. From automotive to engineering sectors, it is a top choice for creating advanced prototypes, drones, and final products that demand heightened durability and heat resistance while reducing overall weight. Its versatility allows engineers and manufacturers to explore new horizons in product design and development.

The ideal printing temperature for PA12 CF15 is between 255 ºC and 270 ºC on a heated bed at 90-110 ºC at a speed of 35-60 mm/s, with the layer fan set to 0-10% and the flow rate set to 95-105%. It is not necessary to print this filament in a closed chamber. The recommended retraction speed for PA12 CF15 is 20-45 mm/s, and the optimal retractions are 2-3 mm for direct extrusion and 4-6 mm for Bowden systems. The recommended printing surface is glass with Kapton tape.

Due to the inclusion of carbon fibers in the PA12 CF15 filament formula, it is highly recommended to use an abrasion-resistant nozzle when printing with this material, as using a standard nozzle will cause excessive abrasion and poor print quality. The best nozzles to use with PA12 CF15 filament are a hardened steel nozzle or a nozzle with a ruby tip.

The proper storage of PA12 CF15 filament is essential, as processing a wet filament can lead to polymer chain degradation, fragility, poor layer adhesion, stringing, and oozing. It is best to store the filament in a sealed bag with desiccant or in a vacuum-sealed filament container. If the filament absorbs excess moisture, it should be dried in a filament dryer at 80 ºC for 4 hours before it can be extruded.
