The Nanovia catalog of products includes many standard as well as engineering polymers for specialized applications, including a wide range of PA filaments. One of them is the PA Food Industry filament ideal for applications in the agri-food industry thanks to its great chemical resistance to disinfectants and cleaning products, and temperature resistance of up to 100 ºC (cleaning with steam).

Apart from its vibrant blue color (easy to notice in food), the PA Food Industry filament is characterized by another feature that makes it ideal for food processing applications. The filament contains a metallic charge that is detectable by tunnel metal detectors very commonly used in the agri-food industry to prevent unwanted objects from compromising the final food product.

The Nanovia PA Food Industry filament is easy to 3D print due to low retraction and no need for a heated chamber (although it is recommended at 20 ºC) and it is compatibility with most FDM 3D printers. It is strongly recommended that an abrasion resistant nozzle with a diameter of at least 0.6 mm be used (metalic content) in order to prevent excessive abrasion of the nozzle and a decrease in quality of the parts.

Some possible uses for this filament are gripppers, suction and blowing devices, spatulas, template structures, wheels, adapters, and any other objects used in contact with food. The PA Food Industry filament is approved for those applications in accordance with the 10/2011 EU regulation and the 1245/2020 EC regulation on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food, as well as with the FDA 21 CFR §§ 178.3297 norm.

The ideal printing temperature for the PA Food Industry is between 265 ºC and 290 ºC on a bed heated to 70-80 ºC. It is not required to print this filament in a closed chamber (although recommended at 20 ºC). An abrasion resistant nozzle of at least 0.6 mm in diameter (e.g., a ruby tip nozzle or a hardened steel nozzle) should be used. The recommended printing surface is glass, PVA glue or Magigoo PA.

PA is a very hygroscopic material which is why it is crucial to store the PA Food Industry filament properly as processing of moist filament may cause degradation of polymer chains, brittleness, poor layer adhesion, stringing and oozing. It is best to store the filament in a tightly sealed bag with a desiccant or in a vacuum sealed filament container. Should the filament absorb excess moisture, it must be dried in a filament dryer at 60 ºC for 4 hours before it can be extruded.
