Ultrafuse TPU 95A is a hard thermoplastic polyurethane filament with a great balance of flexibility and durability. Its most distinguishing feature is that it was designed to allow for easier and faster printing than softer TPU grades. Similarly to Ultrafuse TPU 64D, Ultrafuse TPU 95A is based on the BASF Elastollan material, which means outstanding wear and abrasion resistance, great tensile strength, damping capacity, chemical resistance and preserved flexibility at both low and high temperatures.

Parts 3D printed with Ultrafuse TPU 95A are characterized by high elongation at break, great impact resistance, excellent layer adhesion and a good resistance to oils and industrial chemicals.

The Ultrafuse TPU 95A filament is a perfect material to start with when printing with flexible materials because it can be successfully printed on both direct drive and Bowden style printers. Normally, Bowden extrusion systems are not recommended for flexible materials since they tend to clog. Furthermore, the Ultrafuse TPU 95A filament is compatible with the water soluble support material Ultrafuse BVOH, which allows the user to design and 3D print parts with complex geometries and structures. Using a water soluble support makes the post processing not only more sustainable (no chemical solvents are required) but also less complicated, more affordable and shorter, at the same time guaranteeing a better surface finish due to not having to remove the support structures manually. This makes parts 3D printed with Ultrafuse TPU 95A perfect for not only for prototyping and tooling applications but also end uses.

Apart from being resistant and easy to 3D print and post process, the Ultrafuse TPU 95A filament is guaranteed to be consistent in terms of diameter, color and properties within and between batches. This is thanks to BASF’s strict and cutting edge manufacturing techniques and diligent and thorough quality control with all BASF materials.

Like any filament, Ultrafuse TPU 95A should be stored properly to keep its longevity and quality. The spool can be kept in its original packaging, with a filament drying capsule, or in a vacuum sealed bag. An intelligent filament container can also be used to protect the filament from humidity. During printing the filament can be placed in a filament drying case or an inline filament dryer. If the filament absorbs too much moisture, it should be dried at 70 °C in a hot air dryer or vacuum oven for at least 5 hours.

The Ultrafuse TPU 95A filament should be printed at 210-230 ºC on a bed heated to 40 ºC, at a speed of 15-40 mm/s. The ideal building surface for the Ultrafuse TPU 95A filament is a glass surface but surfaces such as a PEI coated spring sheet will also work well. In case of adhesion issues, a special adhesive for flexible filaments Magigoo Flex can be used. The manufacturer recommends using a 3D printer with a passively heated closed chamber when working with Ultrafuse TPU 95A.
