The Wax Castable resin is a material designed and manufactured by Liqcreate for jewelry, dental and industrial applications. It is a blue wax-based castable resin for the DLP and LCD/MSLA technologies, and in combination with the direct investment casting method it can create jewelry and dental models, as well as models for bronze and brass casting

The Wax Castable resin offers high precision, crisp details and a smooth surface finish with intricate features (also perfect for the casting of positive and negative engravings), as well as clean and ash free burnout.

The resin can be used on all compatible DLP and LCD/MSLA 3D printers in the range of 385-420 nm by brands such as Anycubic, Phrozen or Creality. A full list of compatible printers can be consulted on the manufacturer's website.

Since the 3D printing and post-processing workflow for the Wax Castable resin differs from working with other Liqcreate resins, it is highly recommeded to consult the Usage Tips section as well as the manufacturer's website for detailed instructions.

Due to the wax contents in the Wax Castable resin it will solidify at temperatures of around 17-18 ºC. This is why it is crucial to use this product in environments with temperatures above 18 ºC (does not apply to storage conditions which can be below 18 ºC). Before usage, the Wax Castable resin should be heated up to its liquid phase by leaving the product for 5 hours at room temperature or by placing the packaging in a warm environment (indirect light, in the original packaging) of up to 50 ºC for 20 minutes. Safety equipment such as protective garments, gloves and face protection is highly recommended for the handling of resin.

As far as the post-processing of the Elastomer-X, a few simple steps must be followed. First, the 3D printed part has to be cleaned for a maximum of 6 minutes in Liqcreate Resin Cleaner, IPA alcohol or bioethanol, preferably ultrasonic or under agitation. The solvent used must also be at a temperature of at least 20°C to avoid unwanted solidification. Then the completely dried part has to be cured in a high-power UV curing chamber. The curing workflow is explained in detail by the manufacturer here. It absolutely crucial that the parts are dry before they are cured. The curing of wet or sticky parts will lead to mechanical and surface defects. The drying can be done by simply leaving the cleaned part in a well ventilated area for at least 30 minutes or with the help of pressurized air (2 minutes) for parts cleaned in IPA alcohol or ethanol.

As far as the casting process, the 3D printed parts should have excellent surface quality and visible layers, as well as a matte non-sticky surface after washing and drying in order to avoid imprecise and porous casted parts. Since resins (especially wax based) have a higher thermal expansion than regular wax, the investment material used should be strong enough to survive this expansion and not crack. The recommended investment material for jewellry applications is the Prestige Unicast investment material and for dentistry the N&V or Ambervest investment materials. More advice on casting parts 3D printed with the Wax Castable resin can be found on the manufacturer's website for jewelry uses and for dental applications.
