Rigid and easy to print glass fiber reinforced PETG ideal for outdoor applications.

Nanovia is a French filament manufacturer famous for their advanced technical materials, one of them being the PETG GF UV reinforced with glass fiber. The Nanovia PETG GF UV is a filament designed for the 3D printing of rigid structural and technical parts intended for use outdoors. This is possible thanks to the excellent resistance to water and temperatures of up to 80 °C, insulating properties, as well as UV resistance.

The base of the Nanovia PETG GF UV filament is PETG, one of the most popular (together with PLA) 3D printing materials and a product of the glycolization of PET. This process was developed to eliminate the risk of PET crystallizing in high temperatures and thus becoming weaker. In general terms, PETG is more durable and heat resistant than PLA, and easier to work with than ABS or ASA as it does not require a heated base.

Another advantage offered by the Nanovia PETG GF UV is that it is reinforced with glass fibers. Adding fibers to filaments is a common practice in plastic compounding and, depending on the fibers added (carbon, glass, aramid, etc), can significantly improve the filament's printability, and mechanical and thermal behavior. In the case of the Nanovia PETG GF UV, the glass fibre reinforced matrix makes it 40% more resistant than PETG alone, contributing to better printability and increased part rigidity, durability, heat resistance and chemical resistance.

The combined benefits of PETG and glass fiber and Nanovia's expertise in the manufacturing of high quality filaments have resulted in a premium advanced PETG GF UV filament ideal for demanding technical applications. Parts 3D printed with the PETG GF UV filament can be used outdoors and their mechanical and visual properties will not deteriorate even with prolonged exposure to UV rays, rain, or high temperatures.

All 3D printing filament should be stored properly in a dark and dry place in order to be protected from humidity. It is recommended to store the Nanovia PETG GF UV filament in a sealed bag with desiccant, in an airtight container or in an intelligent filament container before and after printing. If the filament absorbs excess moisture, it should be dried for 4 hours at 60 ºC, for example in the PrintDry filament dryer, the Mass Portal filament dryer or the Flashforge filament drying station with inbuilt renewable desiccant.

3D printing with PETG filament is just as simple as with the PLA filament. In the case of the PETG GF UV filament, it's necessary that the printing base is hot, between 80 and 90 ºC. In addition, the temperature of the extruder should be between 220 and 240 ºC. In the case of printing large pieces it's advisable to use BuildTak, Kapton TapeMagigoo or DimaFix so that the pieces don't tend to detach from the base. To ensure the dimensional stability of the parts it's advisable to use a closed 3D printer, with the recommended chamber temperature of 20 ºC.

With the PETG GF UV it's necessary to use a nozzle of 0.50 mm in diameter or more but it isn't necessary to use a reinforced nozzle since this filament has low abrasion. Even so it's recommended to use the Nozzle Olsson Ruby for all advanced materials.
