ESD safe PA12 with a carbon nanotube matrix, excellent performance and printability.

3DxTech's filament portfolio includes a wide range of ESD-safe technical filaments. One of them is the 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament, which is made of a special nylon 12 and a state-of-the-art carbon nanotube matrix. This formulation guarantees excellent mechanical properties (low shrinkage, high dimensional stability, reproducible part-to-part dimensions) as well as excellent printability. The carbon nanotube technology used in 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament gives it a low density, which makes it perfect for 3D printing of lightweight parts.

3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament features low moisture absorption, exceptional chemical and solvent resistance (higher compared to PA6 and PA66), UV resistance and high thermal resistance, allowing 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament to be used for 3D printing of fixtures, tools and brackets for demanding and harsh industrial environments with operating temperatures up to 150°C and humidity.

Other ideal applications are ESD-proof semiconductor parts for the automotive, oil & gas and electrical/electronic industries. This is made possible by the dissipative properties of the 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament, which allows electrostatic charge to dissipate safely along its surface and away from equipment that could be damaged by the discharge.

The 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament should be printed at a temperature of 275-295 ºC, on a bed heated to 90-110 ºC. It is also recommended to use a 3D printed with a heated chamber (up to 145°C) if possible as it can help prevent warping. Another way to prevent warping and improve adhesion of the 3D printed part to the printing surface (especially with large parts) is to use the Magigoo adhesive.

Since the 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament contains abrasive carbon fibers, the manufacturer recommends printing it with a hardened steel nozzle with a diameter of at least 0.4 mm. Using a nozzle that is not wear resistant will lead to its excessive wear and a deterioration in print quality. The ideal layer height is 60% of nozzle diameter and it is not advised to print layers smaller than 0.2mm with carbon fiber reinforced filaments.

Complex parts can be created with the 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament with the help of support structures. The compatible support filament is the AquaTek X1 UMS filament by 3DxTech.

The 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament should be stored properly in order to prevent it from absorbing excess moisture. Humidity is the biggest enemy of filaments as it can result in extrusion problems, poor surface quality of the 3D printed part and a deterioration in its mechanical properties. The best way to store the 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament is in a sealed bag with desiccant, in a vacuum sealed container or in an intelligent filament container. During printing, the Fiber Three drying case can be used. If the 3DXSTAT ESD PA12 filament absorbs too much moisture, it should dried in a filament dryer for 4 hours at 90 ºC.
