3DxTech's filament portfolio includes a wide range of specialized and enhanced nylon filaments, one of them being the WearX™ PA6 filament. This material is composed of nylon 6 and designed to have advanced wear and friction resistance (3 times more than unmodified PA6), especially in terms of sliding and rotational wear in dry conditions in temperatures up to 120 ºC.

In comparison with standard PA6, the WearX™ PA6 filament offers a harder surface, superior dimensional stability, and a matte surface finish. Apart from the wear resistance, parts 3D printed with the WearX™ PA6 filament have industrial-grade mechanical, thermal, and chemical resistance (methanol, isopropanol, petrol, weak acids, weak/strong bases, oils, detergents, lubricants, antifreeze).

The wear resistance of this material diminishes off as the operating temperature increases (up to 120 ºC). Nevertheless, applying an external lubricant will extend the wear life of parts 3D printed with WearX™ PA6 and allow for much more elevated operating temperatures, even under increased loads or speeds.

The WearX™ PA6 filament should be printed at a temperature of 260-275 ºC, on a bed heated to 80-95 ºC. It is also recommended to use a 3D printed with a heated chamber if possible (30-80 ºC) as it can help prevent warping. Another way to prevent warping and improve adhesion of the 3D printed part to the printing surface (especially with large parts) is to use the Nano Polymer Adhesive.

Complex parts can be created with the WearX™ PA6 filament with the help of support structures. The compatible support filament is the AquaTek X1 UMS filament by 3DxTech.

The WearX™ PA6 filament should be stored properly in order to prevent it from absorbing excess moisture. Humidity is the biggest enemy of filaments as it can result in extrusion problems, poor surface quality of the 3D printed part and a deterioration in its mechanical properties. The best way to store the WearX™ PA6 filament is in a sealed bag with desiccant, in a vacuum sealed container or in an intelligent filament container. During printing, the Fiber Three drying case can be used. If the WearX™ PA6 filament absorbs too much moisture, it should dried in a filament dryer for 4-6 hours at 90 ºC.
