Heat Break Copperhead LGX
The Copperhead LGX bimetallic heat break from Slice Engineering is a genuine replacement for the heat breaks in the Bondtech LGX FF or LGX Shortcut hotends. These hotends are part of the LGX extruders designed for 3D printing with flexible filaments. In this setup, the heat break fits directly in the extruder to enable a very short filament path and fast printing.
The heat break is one of the most crucial elements of the hotend. One side of the heat break fits into the heat sink and the other into the hot block. Thus, the heat break's task is to separate the hotend's cold and hot zones, and help avoid jams and clogging.
A way to increase the heat breakage effect is to use materials with a low coefficient thermal transmission, such as titanium or stainless steel. The Copperhead LGX does just that, since the famous Slice Engineering Bimetallic technology includes a hardened stainless steel surgical tubing in the cooling zone and copper alloy in the hot zone to efficienty conduct heat inward and prevent heat creep.
The Copperhead LGX heat break is rated to 450 ºC, it melts filament faster and conducts 60 % less heat than other heat breaks on the market. Its high operating temperature means that it can print thermoplastics even as demanding as PEEK, PEI, ASA, PC and Nylon.
It is highly recommended to use thermal boron nitride paste on the Copperhead LGX heat break before inserting it into the heat sink zone. This will favour heat transmission and keep the cold zone of the hot end properly cooled, avoiding clogging and heat creep.
More detailed instructions on how to properly use the thermal boron nitride paste can be found on the Slice Engineering website.
Exhaustive installation instructions for the Copperhead LGX heat break are available on the Slice Engineering website. CAD files for the Copperhead LGX heat break can be downloaded from Bondtech's website.
