The Zetamix 17-4PH stainless steel filament for 3D printers sets the standard in industrial 3D printing and metal additive manufacturing, delivering an exceptional balance of strength, hardness, and long-lasting durability. This premium metal filament, known for its precipitation hardening, blends high-quality binders with 17-4 PH stainless steel powder, ensuring easy handling and reliable performance. Its outstanding tensile strength and ability to endure extreme loads make it the go-to choice for functional parts, industrial prototypes, and high-demand mechanical components.

Video 1: discover the Zetamix by Nanoe brand.

With chemical and thermal debinding followed by sintering at up to 1350°C, printed parts achieve mechanical properties rivaling solid steel, ensuring durability, reliability, and structural stability. Its excellent corrosion resistance protects components in harsh environments and demanding industrial applications, opening new possibilities in engineering, advanced mechanics, and functional prototype development.

Available in vacuum-sealed spools with a standard diameter of 1.75 mm, the filament guarantees long-term preservation and consistent quality. Printing at 120–130°C and 20 mm/s yields highly precise, consistent results, outperforming conventional plastic filaments. The combination of user-friendliness, superior strength, and industrial versatility makes it essential for advanced projects, functional parts, and high-value prototypes.

With Zetamix 17-4PH stainless steel filament, 3D printing reaches a new level. Each part delivers strength, accuracy, and excellence, redefining the possibilities of metal 3D printing and guaranteeing the highest standards of industrial quality for every project.

1. Filament and Printer Preparation

The Zetamix 17-4PH filament is softer than traditional plastic filaments, so it is recommended to use a non-aggressive extrusion gear, preferably with grooves, to prevent filament shredding. Before starting a long print, clean the nozzle and pre-extrude some material to ensure proper flow and no blockages.

2. Printing Parameters

  • Extruder temperature: 120–130°C
  • Bed temperature: 40°C
  • Print speed: 20 mm/s recommended (5–30 mm/s depending on geometry)
  • Nozzle diameter: 0.4–1 mm
  • Layer height: 0.1–1 mm (0.2 mm standard)
  • Retraction: Yes (optional)
  • Layer fan: 100% from the second layer
  • Wall count: 3 recommended, minimum 2
  • Infill: 2D pattern (triangles, grid, honeycomb, or lines) with 20–100% density
  • Top/Bottom layers: Depends on layer height (0.2 mm → 5 layers)

3. Filament Loading

Load the filament without initial pressure and gently increase until it passes smoothly through the PTFE tube, avoiding shredding. Using a flexible plate helps part removal after printing.

4. Debinding and Sintering

The filament requires a two-stage post-processing:

  • Chemical debinding: Immerse the part in an acetone bath at 40°C for ~24 hours (depending on geometry). Stop heating a few hours before removal. Dry for 2 hours at room atmosphere.
  • Thermal debinding: Increase from 50°C to 650°C at 10°C/h in argon atmosphere with 2.5% hydrogen.
  • Sintering: Furnace at 1350°C at 50°C/h, hold 2 hours in argon with 2.5% hydrogen.
  • Shrinkage rate: 15.4% ±1% X/Y, 14.7% ±1% Z.
  • Oversize factor: 118.2% X/Y, 117.2% Z.

5. Additional Post-processing

  • Gas flow: 0.5 LPM
  • Pressure: 0.2 bar during sintering cycle
  • After every two metal treatments, perform a cleaning cycle in ambient atmosphere with inlet and outlet valves open.

6. General Recommendations

  • Always adjust parameters according to wall thickness and part design.
  • Keep filament in optimal conditions; recommended to use within one year from opening.
  • For complex parts, perform small test prints before producing large pieces.
