PCTG GF is a glass fiber reinforced (10 %) version of the Fiberlogy PCTG filament. PCTG is a copolyester often used in 3D printing as a drop-in replacement for PETG but with superior resistance to impact and heat. The Fiberlogy PCTG GF is suitable for desktop 3D printers without a heated chamber and its high dimensional stability and minimal shrinkage ensure models will not crack during the printing process. These features make the PCTG GF filament an accessible and easy-to-print material for all.

The PCTG GF filament combines the great mechanical and thermal properties of PCTG with the unique features of glass fiber, creating a filament that offers high impact strength (60 kJ/m²) and tensile strength (25 MPa) for applications where the strength offered by other polymers is not enough. The inclusion of glass fiber in the formula yields PCTG GF even more strengh as well as stiffness, and makes the parts resistant to weathering and chemicals. The 3D printed parts have an attractive rough matte finish with almost imperceptible layers. This combination of PCTG and glass fibers makes parts 3D printed with the PCTG GF filament apt for outdoor applications.

The PCTG GF filament offers a diverse range of potential applications. In the realm of prototyping, it excels in creating functional prototypes, specialized tools, and supporting low-volume production processes. Within the automotive sector, this filament finds its use in crafting elements such as covers, connectors, and electronic component housings, where its durability and reliability are essential. Furthermore, in the electronics industry, PCTG GF is highly suitable for manufacturing enclosures with heightened resistance to impacts, chemicals, and extreme temperatures, ensuring the protection and longevity of electronic devices. Its versatility makes it a valuable choice across multiple industries where robust, high-performance materials are required.

The ideal printing temperature for PCTG GF is between 250 ºC and 270 ºC on a heated bed at 90-110 ºC at a speed of 35-60 mm/s, with the layer fan set to 0-25 % and the flow rate set to 90-100 %. It is not necessary to print this filament in a closed chamber. The recommended retraction speed for PCTG GF is 20-45 mm/s, and the optimal retractions are 1-2 mm for direct extrusion and 4-6 mm for Bowden systems. To improve the adhesion of this material, the manufacturer recommends using products such as Kapton tape.

Due to the inclusion of glass fibers in the PCTG GF filament formula, it is highly recommended to use an abrasion-resistant nozzle when printing with this material, as using a standard nozzle will cause excessive abrasion and poor print quality. The best nozzles to use with PCTG GF filament are a hardened steel nozzle or a nozzle with a ruby tip.

The proper storage of PCTG GF filament is essential, as processing a wet filament can lead to polymer chain degradation, fragility, poor layer adhesion, stringing, and oozing. It is best to store the filament in a sealed bag with desiccant or in a vacuum-sealed filament container. If the filament absorbs excess moisture, it should be dried in a filament dryer at 60 ºC for 4 hours before it can be extruded.
