Addnorth is a Swedish 3D printing filament manufacturer renowned for producing very high quality filaments, as well as strong material development for science and engineering applications.

The PC Blend HT LCF filament from Addnorth is a blend of polycarbonate, polybutylene terephthalate, and long chopped carbon fibers. Each of these components brings excellent mechanical and thermal properties to the mix that make the PC Blend HT LCF filament a highly resilient material ideal for advanced applications in demanding environments. What's worth mentioning is that this filament, unlike most PC blends available on the market, is completely styrene-free, which reduces harmful odor emission during printing to the minimum.

The polycarbonate (PC) contributes toughness and high impact strength, as well as UV protection and thermal and chemical resistance. The polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) further reinforces the strength and toughness, heat resistance and chemical/UV resistance. The additon of carbon fibers not only helps printability but also ensures lighter weight, enhanced stiffness, and boosted thermal and chemical resistance. Thanks to the carbon fiber, larger objects and thicker structures can be printed with no concerts for deformation or fragility.

The properties of the PC Blend HT LCF filament

Thanks to the advanced properties of the components that make up the PC Blend HT LCF, this filament 3D prints parts that are highly robust, precise, accurate and with a great deal of dimensional stability and wear/load/chemical resistance.

Partial melting occurs only at 220 ºC

Furthermore, parts 3D printed with PC Blend HT LCF are capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 185 ºC, making them ideal for applications in environments with elevated heat. A part 150 mm long, 12.7 mm thick and 32.7 mm wide only started exhibiting sings of melting at approximately 220 ºC (mostly at the base). This, however, may vary depending on part size and geometry.

All in all, this material is ideal for the 3D printing of high quality models with a matte finish and low layer visibility, as well as functional components for demanding environments in various industries, for example in the automotive or manufacturing sectors.

It is recommended to print the PC Blend HT LCF filament at an extrusion temperature of 265 - 290 °C and a bed temperature of 100 - 120 °C.

To ensure proper adhesion of the PC Blend HT LCF filament to the printing base, it is recommended to use BuildTak or Magigoo PC. In case of warping, the use of the Raft or Brim setting is recommended to eliminate possible shrinkage.

Due to the carbon fibre content in the PC Blend HT LCF filament the risk of excessive nozzle wear is very high. This is why it is advisable to use a hardened steel nozzle, a Vanadium nozzle or a ruby tip nozzle with a diameter of at least 0.4 mm. It is also advisable to use cleaning filament at the end of printing with this filament.

Due to its high fiber content, the PC Blend HT LCF should be properly stored to avoid the filament from getting humid and affecting the parts' quality. Ideally, The PC Blend HT LCF filament should be dried before and during printing. The Sunlu FilaDryer 4 is the perfect equipment for the task.
