Fillamentum, a renowned Czech manufacturer of 3D printing filaments, has a range of materials for professional use called Fillamentum Industrial. Fillamentum Industrial stands out for its filaments with specific properties for various applications in the industrial sector, such as OBC 905.

OBC 905 is a filament made from OBC (olefin block copolymer). It is a revolutionary and innovative material made with Imagin3D™ OBC Polyethylene from DOW, one of the world's leading chemical companies.

OBC 905 is considered an elastomer material and has high impact and wear resistance, low moisture absorption, and resistance to much higher temperatures than other elastomers without deformation (up to 100°C). In addition, OBC 905 is a lightweight material with a density of 0.905 g/cm3.

Some of its most outstanding properties are:

  • High chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, alcohols, glycols and water.
  • Good electrical insulator.
  • Barrier properties: Low permeability to gases.
  • Low-sticky surface that does not get wet.

In addition, parts 3D printed with this material have a certain flexibility for about a week.

In terms of properties related to the 3D printing process, this material has a high adhesion between layers, which facilitates printing and considerably reduces the possibility of cracking in the manufacture of parts. Parts 3D printed with OBC 905 are smooth to the touch, providing a quality surface finish.

Thanks to its properties and low density, this material enables lightweight and exceptionally durable 3D printed parts for a variety of industries and applications that require the use of a lightweight, electrically insulating and chemical resistant material.

In order to ensure filament longevity and avoid extrusion problems and surface issues with the part, it is highly recommended to store the OBC 905 filament in a dry environment at all times to prevent moisture aborption. The spool should be stored in a resealable bag with a filament drying capsule, in a vacuum sealed container, an intelligent filament container before printing. During printing, the filament can be placed in a filament drying case

The manufacturer recommends using Magigoo PP in order to improve the adhesion of parts 3D printed with the OBC 905 filament to the printing surface. In case of adhesion problems, the "brim" setting can be chosen in the slicing software. The best printing surface for OBC 905 is glass or PEI.

The optimal extrusion parameters for the OBC 905 filament are a printing temperature of 195-215 ºC, on a bed heated to 90-105 ºC. The printing speed should be set to 20-40 mm/s (30-35 mm/s is a good starting point) and the layer fan should be at 25-50 % (from fifth layer). If the 3D printed parts have elements such as overhangs or supports, it may help to set the fan to up to 75 %. It should, however, be kept in mind that excessive cooling may cause warping. A heated chamber is not required but it can certainly help should signs of warping be noticed on the part.
