In the world of FDM/FFF 3D printing, there is a family of materials that has stood out clearly above all others for some years now, the PAEK family (polyaryletherketone or polyaryletherketone ether ketone). The materials belonging to this class are semi-crystalline plastics, which withstand high temperatures (around 200 ºC) while maintaining high mechanical strength values.
The PAEK family includes PEEK, PEKK and PEI. All of them have high mechanical strength, chemical resistance and high temperature flammability.
PEEK (polyetheretheretherketone) is one of the world's highest performing polymers. PEEK has exceptional mechanical, thermal and chemical resistance properties, making it an ideal material for some of the most demanding applications such as seals, gears, bushings, bearings, pump and compressor components. Industries such as automotive, aerospace, defence, defence, semiconductor and oil/gas depend on PEEK for applications where failure is not an option.
CarbonX™ PEEK CF20 filament is a filament composed of a PEEK base and reinforced with 20% carbon fibre. This composition offers outstanding thermal properties. It is one of the highest performing thermoplastics available today and is used in some of the most demanding applications in industries such as automotive, aerospace and petroleum due to its good mechanical and chemical resistance properties.
Some of the most outstanding properties of the CarbonX™ PEEK CF20 filament are as follows:
The melting temperature of PEEK is 343°C, so an all-metal hotend capable of reaching and maintaining temperatures above 400°C is required, depending on the 3D printer. In addition, CarbonX™PEEK+CF20 filament has a tendency to stick to metal, so make sure to clean the extruder thoroughly before it cools down, otherwise it can cause permanent clogging that could render the hotend unusable.
One of the most difficult aspects of printing with PEEK is getting this material to adhere to the printing surface. Due to its difficulty in printing, this filament is recommended for experienced users.

The use of PEEK CF requires a great deal of experience in the 3D printing industry and a qualified 3D printer, as it requires an extrusion temperature of 385-415°C, a base temperature of 130-150°C and a chamber temperature of up to 140°C, so it is recommended to use industrial 3D printers that meet all the requirements.
To ensure good adhesion to the base and to avoid warping, the use of Nano Polymer Adhesive is recommended.
In the case of PEEK CF20 filament, it is recommended to use a nozzle with at least 0.4 mm output diameter to avoid clogging. In addition, it is highly recommended that the nozzle be made of hardened steel, as carbon fibre can be very abrasive.
