Smart Materials is a renowned Spanish manufacturer of FDM 3D printing materials that stands out for the wide variety of filaments it offers and their high quality.

PLA Iris is one of the latest additions to its catalogue. This filament is composed of PLA additivated with pigments that achieve a special finish that stands out from standard coloured PLA filaments.

Parts 3D printed with PLA Iris have an iridescent finish that allows you to see reflections and a subtle change in colour depending on the viewing angle and light source. In addition, this surface finish hides minor imperfections and layers resulting from filament fusion 3D printing technology.

Thanks to its PLA base, this FDM 3D printing filament inherits the most outstanding properties of this material, such as its ease of printing. This ease of processing is due to its printing temperature and the fact that it does not require the use of an FDM 3D printer with a heated bed. As a result, PLA Iris filament can be printed on almost any FDM 3D printer on the market.

PLA Iris is made from high quality raw materials, not including recycled or reclaimed materials. Thus, Smart Materials achieves a high quality filament with a stable diameter, no ovality and a tolerance of less than ±0.03 mm in diameter.

The use of filaments such as PLA Iris allows the user to manufacture parts with a striking surface finish that stands out from the finish of other PLA-based filaments. This filament is very useful for the manufacture of decorative objects, visual models or pieces oriented to the fashion sector.

Like PLA, PLA Iris filament has a low level of shrinkage and does not require the use of a heated bed. Therefore, it is possible to print this material on almost any FDM 3D printer on the market.

The recommended printing temperature is between 190 and 220 ºC. Despite not requiring the use of a hot bed, if you have a printer with this feature, it is recommended to use it at a temperature between 20 and 60 ºC.

It is recommended to use the coating fan at 100 % for best results.

Although the adhesion to the base of this material is very good, it can be reinforced using Magigoo or 3DLac.

For optimal results, it is recommended to print this material in a draught-free area, which can be kept at a stable temperature.
