Raise 3D, known mostly for high quality innovative dual extrusion 3D printers and accessories, also has a wide range of both standard and engineering filaments to offer. One of the materials in the Raise 3D portfolio is the PETG ESD filament. Apart from its electrically dissipative properties, its most outstanding characteristics are its excellent chemical resistance, good high and low temperature resistance, great printability and good impact resistance.

The Raise 3D PETG ESD filament is an ESD safe filament, which means that parts 3D printed with it safely evacuate any electrostatic discharge along its surface. This feature is crucial in industrial environments where electronics are handled or potentially explosive gases and powders are present in the air. Electrostatic discharge is relatively harmless for humans but it can permanently damage sensitive electronics or pose a safety risk.

The Raise 3D PETG ESD is made of PETG (> 90 %) filled with multi-walled carbon-nanotubes (5-9 %). The addition of carbon particles to a polymer is the typical method of achieving an ESD safe filament since carbon provides electrical surface resistivity, thus helping to safely dissipate any discharge. The Raise 3D PETG ESD filament has a consistent and reliable surface resistance of 104 - 107 Ohm/m2.

The carbon fibers in combination with PETG contribute to the Raise 3D PETG ESD filament being easily printable with good adhesion between layers and to the printing bed, as well as low deformation and warping. The carbon fibers also make the parts 3D printed with the PETG ESD resistant to heat and chemicals, as well as light. Thanks to the PETG base, parts 3D printed with this filament will also be resistant to low temperatures.

All these properties make the Raise PETG ESD filament ideal for the manufacturing of jigs and fixtures, casings and housings with electrically dissipative properties for the automotive industry, semi-conductor industry, consumer electronics as well as the aerospace industry.

The Raise 3D PETG ESD filament is characterized by great adhesion and low warping. Should, however, any adhesion problems occur when 3D printing with this filament, it is recommended to use adhesives such as Magigoo, setting the bed temperature to 80 °C and choosing the brim or raft setting in the slicing software.

Humidity is one of the biggest enemies of filaments. This is why it is crucial to properly store filaments, for example in a vacuum sealed bag with a desiccant, in an intelligent filament container, or in a filament drying case by Fiber Three. If the filament has absorbed too much humidity, it should be dried at 60 ºC for 6-12 hours.

Complex structure can be created with the help of a support material. The recommended support material for the Raise 3D PETG ESD filament is the Raise 3D PVA+ Premium filament soluble in water.

The printing profiles for the PETG ESD filament are available on ideaMaker IO and on the Raise 3D Academy page a tutorial on how to import slicing profiles to ideaMaker can be found.
