ColorFabb is a company based in the Netherlands that develops and produces filament for 3D printing. The PA Blue Metal Detectable filament was designed for applications in the agri-food industry. Apart from its visual detectability thanks to its vibrant blue color, the PA Blue Metal Detectable filament offers detectability by tunnel metal detectors very commonly used in the agri-food industry to prevent unwanted objects from contaminating the final food product.

Some possible uses for this filament are gripppers, suction and blowing devices, spatulas, template structures, wheels, adapters, and any other objects used in contact with food. The PA Blue Metal Detectable filament is approved for those applications in accordance with the 10/2011 EU regulation, the 1935/2004 EC regulation, and the 2023/2006 EC regulation (art. 5, 6, and 7). The components and monomers of the product are listed in the 10/2011 EU regulation and amendments.

It must be kept in mind that the manufacturer or seller must always check the suitability of the 3D printed parts for food contact.

The ideal printing temperature for the PA Blue filament is between 265 ºC and 290 ºC on a heated bed, with 3DLac for improved adhesion and a printing speed of 30-40 mm/s. For best interlayer adhesion it is recommended to use 0 % fan cooling but for geometries that require cooling 50 % is advised.

PA is a very hygroscopic material which is why it is crucial to store the PA Blue filament properly as processing of moist filament may cause degradation of polymer chains, brittleness, poor layer adhesion, stringing and oozing. It is best to store the filament in a tightly sealed bag with a desiccant or in a vacuum sealed filament container. Should the filament absorb excess moisture, it must be dried in a filament dryer at 100-110 ºC for 3-6 hours before it can be extruded.
