Sermoon D3 is a fully-enclosed FDM 3D printer from the Sermoon D series by Creality. This 3D printer was designed with the needs of industrial design in mind, namely prototyping, jigs, and fixtures making, or design verification, activities that with traditional manufacturing take longer and require more resources. The Sermoon D3 printer is ideal for those tasks as well as the mass production of small but oddly shaped parts or products.

The key features of the Sermoon D3 printer are its sturdy and stable structure, a large build volume, high accuracy, a wide range of compatible materials and fast printing - all that is most needed in the fast-paced environment of iterative design and prototype manufacturing in various industries.

Designed for stability and reliability

The integrated XY-axis gantry system of the Sermoon D3 printer is made of industrial grade thick sheet metal and 4 vertical aerospace aluminium profiles, CNC-machined with 0.01 mm precision. The X, Y and Z axes are supported by stainless steel linear axes with a hardness of 60HRC. Any potential mechanical errors are further reduced by the precise high-torque stepper motor and durable timing belt and pulleys.

The Sermoon D3 printing surface is made up of a high mechanical stability steel base plate and an 8 mm aviation aluminium top plate, with 12 mm aluminium alloy hot bed support.

Tests conducted by the manufacturer have shown that the Sermoon D3 printer withstands the inertial forces of printhead movement very well, giving 8000 hours of stable and uninterrupted printing and producing incredibly delicate prints with an accuracy of 0.1 mm where layers are barely visible.

Work with a variety of materials

The Sermoon D3 printer was developed especially for industrial design purposes and its construction abilities definitely reflect that. The big build volume (300 x 250 x 300 mm) allows for printing more at a time, which increases productivity. The advanced stepper motor driver chip enables 1/256 microstepping, realizing smooth printing at up to 5 times of speed. This makes it possible to print PLA up to 3 times faster, ABS up to 5 times faster.

The Sermoon D3 printer is equipped with a "Sprite" double-gear direct drive extruder (1) that provides powerful extrusion and shrink force. The internally polished copper alloy nozzles (3) and bimetallic thermal heat breaks (2) operate smoothly at long-lasting high temperatures of up to 300 ºC with less thermal creep.

Reliable cooling is provided by two large 5015 cooling fans (4). An extra steel nozzle (7.8 Mohs hardness, 8.0 μm/m·ºC expansion coefficient) kit is included to print with fiber-reinforced materials.

The Sermoon D3 printer comes with two build surfaces, a PC sheet and a PEI sheet. The surfaces can be easily changed (just like the nozzles) and they facilitate the removal of parts by simply bending the sheet. The heated bed temperature can be ajusted up to 110 ºC to adapt to the specific parameters of a wide range of materials:

Thanks to Sermoon D3's fully enclosed and well insulated build chamber, the prints will have a uniform, warm enveloping atmosphere with no surrounding airflow, which will reduce cracking and rippling at the edges

Work safely and smart with Sermoon D3

To ensure user safety, Creality equipped the Sermoon D3 printer with two built-in HEPA air filters that will purify PM0.3 particles and toxic compounds produced during printing with ABS and other filaments. To further increase safety, the printer will sound an alarm, stop and cool down quickly when the enclosure door is opened during printing in order to prevent burns or pinch injuries.

The Sermoon D3 printer was designed to not only print fast and well but also smart. With Creality Print (embedded with Creality Cloud) the user can slice models with just one click as well as preview the models in real time and display the printing progress. No manual leveling is required as Sermoon D3 is equipped with CR-Touch automatic bed leveling

Smart management of the 3D printing workflow

Once the printer is connected via WiFi or RJ45 Ethernet port to the LAN or Internet, users can print and monitor remotely from PC or phone with Creality Print. The most exciting feature in the context of industrial design is the fact that Sermoon D3 allows for multi-printers control. With multiple Sermoon D3 printers connected to the LAN or Internet, models can be batch-printed according to a single command from Creality Print. Users can also divide a large model into small parts and print them with more printers. This feature is extremely useful in 3D printer farms in industrial production environments but also in design offices and worksops.

Applications

The Sermoon D3 printer is the perfect tool for diverse sectors such as machinery industry, general manufacturing, automotive industry, medical industry, education and research or parts and components making. Thanks to its high quality components, broad material compatibility, high extrusion temperatures, enclosed environment and many smart safety and workflow solutions, prototypes and end-use parts with excellent mechanical properties and surface quality can be printed fast in batches on demand and on-site, with the entire process smoothly controlled with Creality Print.
