Fiberlogy is a renowned Polish manufacturer of 3D printing filaments. Thanks to its modern production line and the know-how of its technical team, Fiberlogy offers filaments of exceptional quality. One of their materials from the Fiberlogy R series is the R ABS - an ABS filament made from 100 % recycled material.

The main properties of the R ABS filament include high hardness, excellent resistance to impacts, high temperatures and abrasion, as well as the ability to be processed mechanically and chemically once 3D printed. The R ABS inherits all the best features of ABS, an engineering-grade plastic made of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, and one of the most frequently used plastics in 3D printing (together with PLA).

The properties of the R ABS filament

The idea behind the Fiberlogy R filament line was to create filaments that combine high quality and optimization of production processes, and minimize the negative impact on the ecosystem. The high quality of the Fiberlogy R filaments can be attributed to 2 factors: the raw material is carefully selected and comes from verified sources, and the storing conditions of the filaments are strictly controlled.

All in all, R ABS is a sustainable alternative to  standard ABS and it offers excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical properties, as well as a great surface quality. Thanks to these features, the R ABS filament has a wide range of potential applications, for example in the 3D printing of toys, gadgets, prototypes, conceptual models, jewellry, or decorative objects.

ABS is slightly challenging to 3D print, which is why it is important to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer. The tips on how to extrude the R ABS filament can be found in the Usage Tips section.

The ideal printing temperature for the R ABS is between 250 ºC and 265 ºC on a bed heated to 90-110 ºC at a speed of 35-60 mm/s. It is recommended to print this filament in a closed chamber, with the layer fan set to 0-10 %. The recommended retraction speed for R ABS is 20-45 mm/s, and the optimal retractions are 2-3 mm for direct extrusion and 4-6 mm for Bowden systems. The recommended printing surface is glass, Kapton tape or ABS juice.

It is crucial to store the R ABS filament properly as processing of moist filament may cause degradation of polymer chains, brittleness, poor layer adhesion, stringing and oozing. It is best to store the filament in a tightly sealed bag with a desiccant or in a vacuum sealed filament container. Should the filament absorb excess moisture, it must be dried in a filament dryer at 60 ºC for 4 hours before it can be extruded.
