Presentation of Fiberon’s ASA-CF08 carbon fiber reinforced filament

The Fiberon ASA-CF08 filament combines the UV resistance and thermal stability properties of ASA with the structural rigidity provided by carbon fiber. It is a composite material for 3D printing optimized for demanding applications where outdoor durability, dimensional accuracy, and aesthetic finish are key requirements. Its matte finish and low weight allow for aesthetic parts without compromising mechanical performance.

Mechanical and thermal properties

The thermal and mechanical behavior of ASA-CF08 positions it as a high-performance filament. The heat deflection temperature (HDT) reaches 103 °C, offering stability in applications exposed to moderate heat. The Young’s modulus in dry conditions is 3,611.66 MPa, evidencing the structural rigidity provided by carbon fiber. Tensile strength in the XY plane is 43.51 MPa and in Z 24.95 MPa, while notched Charpy impact strength in XY reaches 5.46 kJ/m². The flexural modulus reaches 3,264.99 MPa in XY and 1,743.42 MPa in Z. All values come from tests performed on printed parts under controlled conditions.

Printability and finish

The formulation of Fiberon ASA-CF08 filament facilitates stable extrusion and interlayer adhesion, reducing the risk of warping typical in technical materials. Printability translates into parts with good detail definition and a professional matte finish, even in complex geometries. This makes the material a viable option for both functional prototypes and small-series production parts. This filament is also available in six colors.

UV resistance and outdoor performance

The ultraviolet resistance and weather resistance of ASA allow printed parts to maintain color and mechanical properties under prolonged sun exposure and adverse environmental conditions. The carbon fiber reinforcement not only provides rigidity but also contributes to long-term dimensional stability, positioning this UV-resistant filament above alternatives like PLA or ABS for outdoor applications.

Recommended applications

Fiberon ASA-CF08 carbon fiber ASA is ideal for components in technical sectors, including automotive applications requiring durable housings and mounts, as well as industrial parts and tooling subjected to loads. It is also ideal for outdoor elements that demand durability against weather. The combination of rigidity, thermal resistance, and aesthetic finish enables its use in functional prototypes and end-use parts where performance reliability is required.

Conclusion

Fiberon ASA-CF08 is a 3D carbon fiber filament designed for projects requiring superior mechanical properties, thermal stability, and environmental resistance. Its balanced formulation between structural performance and printability makes it an advanced alternative for additive manufacturing professionals seeking durable, rigid parts with a high-quality matte aesthetic.

The asa-cf08 filament is recommended to print on 3d printers with closed chamber to reduce warping and cracks. the optimal printing temperature is 260–280 °c and the print bed should be kept between 90–100 °c. for consistent parts, it is advised to use a wear resistant nozzle, such as hardened steel or ruby, due to the carbon fibers present in the filament.

Risks of printing on open printers

Although carbon fiber helps reduce warping, asa has a high tg. cooling too quickly can generate internal stresses and cracks in tall parts. therefore, even with asa-cf08, open 3d printers present higher risk of failures in large or detailed parts.

Safety and exposure to fumes

The asa-cf08 filament releases volatile organic compounds (vocs), such as styrene, when heated. exposure to these fumes may cause respiratory irritation, dizziness and headaches. prolonged exposure increases risks of more serious health issues.

Recommended safety measures

  • Adequate ventilation: use the printer in a well ventilated area to disperse fumes.
  • Closed chambers with filtration: prefer printers with closed chambers and hepa or activated carbon filters to neutralize vocs.
  • Avoid living spaces: do not place the printer in bedrooms or other areas with prolonged human exposure.

Summary of tips for printing asa-cf08

To obtain precise and resistant 3d parts with asa-cf08, it is recommended: keep printing and bed temperature within proper ranges, use resistant nozzles, print preferably in closed printers and ensure ventilation to reduce voc exposure. by following these tips, printed parts will be durable, rigid and safe for any application.
