Within the range of engineering filaments, the Bedrock ASA filament stands out as a high-performance thermoplastic specially designed for demanding environments. ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is an amorphous material that shares many mechanical properties with ABS but offers additional advantages that make it ideal for outdoor applications and extreme conditions. Its formula incorporates acrylate rubber instead of butadiene, giving it superior UV resistance, enhanced weather durability, heat resistance, and chemical robustness, preventing environmental cracking that affects other thermoplastics.

These properties make Bedrock ASA perfect for manufacturing outdoor parts that must retain color, gloss, and mechanical properties even under constant exposure to sunlight, rain, or temperature changes. Its strength makes it an excellent choice for automotive components, outdoor furniture, toys, electrical installations, piping, and building cladding. In 3D printing, Bedrock ASA is ideal for both functional prototypes and final parts that require high impact resistance, dimensional stability, and long-term durability.

Bedrock ASA combines the mechanical strength of ABS with excellent stability against UV radiation, moisture, and chemicals. Parts printed with this filament maintain their integrity and appearance even in extreme use conditions, withstanding impacts, heat, cold, and prolonged outdoor exposure.

ASA is a very versatile 3D printing material and can be used together with HIPS support material to print complex geometries and structures.

The ASA Bedrock filament should be printed at 260-280 ºC at a speed of 30-60 mm/s. Since ASA is quite prone to warping, deformation, and cracking caused by sudden temperature changes, it is highly recommended to use a 3D printer with a closed passive chamber, especially for large parts, and to minimize the use of the layer fan. The bed should be heated to 100-120 ºC to further prevent deformation. To improve bed adhesion of the ASA Bedrock filament, Kapton Tape or adhesive spray can be used.

To ensure the longevity of the ASA Bedrock filament and successful prints, it should be stored in its original packaging, ideally with a filament desiccant capsule, or in a vacuum-sealed bag or smart filament container. During printing, the spool can be placed in a drying case or in an inline filament dryer. If the ASA Bedrock filament absorbs too much moisture, it should be dried in a heated dryer or vacuum oven for 4-16 hours at 60 ºC.
