Breakaway and soluble support filament for PA, Carbon+, Glass+, Elasto TPU, PLA, PETG and Zwax.

3D printing complex structures with bridges and overhangs at certain angles can be a challenge for the FDM 3D printing technology. This is why support filaments are used for these types of projects.

A support filament is a material that serves as a scaffolding for the main piece, and allows the 3D printer to achieve complicated angles structures. Once the printing process is done, the support is removed, usually manually or by means of solvents, to reveal the final piece with the desired design. An example of a support material is the 3NTR SSU04 support filament.

The SSU04 support filament was designed to be compatible with numerous filaments from the 3NTR catalog: PA, Carbon+, Glass+, Elasto TPU, PLA, PETG and Zwax. Its distinguishing characteristic is that it can be used as both a breakaway support (removed by hand or with pliers) and a water soluble support. This method not only leaves the 3D printed part clean and without residue, but is much faster and convenient for the user, since no additional equipment or substances such as D-Limonene are required for the dissolution process.

In order to 3D print with the SSU04 support material, the user will need a 3D printer with at least 2 extruders, one to be used with the main material and the other with the support material. This is, however, no concern to the 3NTR 3D printer users, as all have 3 (3NTR-A2 and 3NTR-A4) or 4 extruders (Spectral 30). This lets the user print complex, multi material and versatile parts with the SSU04 support filament by combining it with 8 different filaments from the 3NTR portfolio.

The SSU04 support filament opens a world of possibilities for 3NTR printer users, enabling many industries to manufacture complex and multi material parts in house with the 3NTR industrial 3D printers, combining numerous engineering grade materials with the SSU04 support to achieve parts for demanding industrial environments or the consumer goods sector.

All the 3NTR 3D printers incorporate a carbon fiber base additivized with glass fiber that ensures optimal adhesion of the 3NTR filaments to the building base, so it is not necessary to apply any adhesion products to the printing base when 3D printing with the SSU04 support material.

It is highly recommended to ensure the proper storage of the SSU04 filament to protect it from the negative effects of humidity. Storing the SSU04 filament in a drying unit, such as the Vento drying unit or the Storm modular drying unit by 3NTR, before and after printing will help prevent the filament from absorbing moisture.
