The Sonic Mega 8K V2 3D printer from Phrozen's portfolio of LCD resin 3D printers is an upgraded printer with multiple improvements and additions with respect to its predecessor, the Sonic Mega 8K. While the Sonic Mega 8K V2 does not differ much in terms of dimensions, weight and XY resolution (43 µm), it is faster (400 layers/hour vs. 140 layers/hour) and it has extra features to streamline the workflow, such as an automatic resin feeding system, plug-in air purifiers, a built-in resin drip hanger, and upgraded software features.

Similarly to its predecessor, the Sonic Mega 8K V2 printer boasts an 8K resolution, a 15" mono-LCD screen, a 405 nm ParaLED Matrix 3.0 light source, and a 33 x 18.5 x 40 cm printing volume (with a 40 cm taller Z-axis). Thanks to these parameters, models 3D printed with the Sonic Mega 8K V2 printer are almost twice as detailed as other large-scale 3D printers.

The Sonic Mega 8K V2 3D printer comes with a pre-calibrated build plate, which means that the printer is ready to work without the need for calibration. What's more, the build plate is now perforated for a reduced peeling force, and it includes a built-in drip hanger.

The full metal exterior makes the structure of the printer stronger and ensures it will serve the user for many years and the metal vat with ACF film (anti-contamination) results in a more reliable and efficient printing experience, reducing the need for frequent vat replacements and maintenance.

The dual linear rails and the ball screw design on the Sonic Mega 8K V2 printer assure the stability of the Z-axis, which means an even print and no wobbling even with large and heavy models.

New features

Producing sizable 3D prints usually requires extended printing durations. The Mega 8K V2 comes with an advanced CPU and upgraded rapid system designed to facilitate quicker printing configurations, expediting the creation process of intricate large-scale 3D models and prototypes.

It should be kept in mind, however, that in order to enhance printing speed, it is essential to have the latest firmware, ACF film, and TR300 resin installed on the Mega 8K V2. However, excessive high-speed printing could potentially reduce the longevity of your release film and LCD.

Coupled with the Phrozen Pump & Fill system, the Mega 8K V2 guarantees consistent resin vat levels, eliminating the need for manual refills and preventing resin shortages during extensive printing tasks. What's more, Sonic Mega 8K V2 is equipped with two plug-in air purifiers, ensuring a comfortable and odor-free printing environment. There's no need for recharging or batteries, and the activated carbon filter can be conveniently replaced whenever necessary.

Easy to use

Just like all products by Phrozen, the Sonic Mega 8K V2 3D printer is very easy to use and straightforward in its design. The printer is operated with a 5" LCD touch screen and the printer connects through a USB port as well as Ethernet. The slicer software for the Sonic Mega 8K is the CHITUBOX software, version V1.9.6 or higher.

The Sonic Mega 8K V2 3D printer package contains a toolbox with all the essential accessories and tools to set up and maintain the device. The toolbox consists of a welcome card, a user manual, a chamber door handle, an allen wrench, a pair of protective gloves, two scrapers, a funnel, a USB flash drive, cables, a magnetic fan cover, and two USB purifiers.

A dry and well ventilated environment is required for the proper functioning of the Sonic Mega 8K V2 printer, as well as a spot with a flat surface and indirect light. The user should use gloves, a mask, protective goggles and long sleeved clothes when handling resin to ensure safety.

Sanitizing alcohol and tissue paper can be used to clean the printer, the resin vat and the build plate. A lubricant, for example SuperLube by Loctite, should be used on the Z-axis T-screw to ensure smooth operation. Before the application of the lubricant, the Z-axis should be wiped with a dry tissue or cloth.

The user manual (Downloads section) should be thoroughly inspected before the Sonic Mega 8K V2 printer is used for the first time. In addition to the manual, numerous resources can be found on the manufacturer’s website, for example guides on setting up the device, printing tips and tricks, troubleshooting guides, post processing advice and maintenance tips.
