Polyamide filament with 15% glass fibre for professional use in demanding applications.

Fiber Three is a renowned 3D printing filament manufacturer with extensive experience in the development of technical filaments. In its catalogue you can find different polyamide-based filaments, such as the F3 PA-GF Pro filament, a glass-filled polyamide filament developed for professional use.

Nylon (PA) is undoubtedly one of the most widely used materials in technical FDM 3D printing. This is because this material meets the mechanical requirements for demanding applications in various industries, be it for the manufacture of prototypes or functional end parts.

The F3 PA-GF Pro filament consists of a polyamide base with a 15 % glass fibre filler by weight. This glass fibre filler gives the material certain properties:

  • Reduces material shrinkage and warping.
  • High impact resistance.
  • High temperature resistance.
  • Stiffness.

Due to its properties, this filament is suitable for all demanding applications where the material has to withstand high temperatures. The F3 PA-GF Pro filament differs from the F3 Pa-CF Pro filament in that it has a lower tensile strength. In addition, in contrast to carbon fibre, glass fibre is not electrically conductive.

The F3 PA-GF Pro filament offers high adhesion to various printing surfaces, especially to the F3 ProPrint surface. This printing surface has been developed by Fiber Three specifically for its polyamide-based filaments.

As for the surface finish of parts 3D printed with F3 PA-GF Pro, the glass fibre filler provides a rough surface with a matt off-white colour. This finish conceals the layers inherent to the manufacturing method.

This filament is part of Fiber Three's range of professional grade materials and is moderately hygroscopic. This sensitivity to moisture is not a problem thanks to F3 Safe, the drying cases developed by Fiber Three, which allow the material to be stored and kept free of moisture even during the 3D printing process.

Thanks to the development of filaments such as F3 PA-GF Pro, Fiber Three offers professional users the ability to produce high quality parts using FDM 3D printing. In addition, with add-ons such as F3 Safe, a moisture-free printing process is guaranteed, which is very important when working with polyamide-based technical filaments.

When 3D printing polyamide-based materials such as F3 PA-GF Pro filament, certain factors must be taken into account, as it is a hygroscopic material. This means that it is a material with a tendency to absorb moisture from the surrounding environment.

The use of a filament with moisture can directly affect the quality of the parts and the mechanical properties of the material. Therefore, in addition to working with a 3D printer that has the right characteristics for 3D printing nylon filament, the user must store and handle the filament in the right conditions. For this reason, the manufacturer recommends using the F3 Safe drying case both to store the material and to keep it free of moisture during the 3D printing process.

Due to the glass fibre content of this filament, the use of hardened steel nozzles is recommended. The use of a standard brass nozzle is not recommended for this material, as carbon fibre is abrasive and degrades standard nozzles, even modifying the nozzle output diameter. Despite the glass fibre filling, the F3 PA-GF Pro filament does not require the use of a large exit diameter nozzle, although it is recommended to use a nozzle with at least 0.25 mm exit diameter.

On the other hand, the F3 PA-GF Pro filament has a higher stiffness than other materials. This should be taken into account to try to avoid sharp curves in the path from the spool to the extrusion system of the 3D printer.

The manufacturer Fiber Three offers the user different printing profiles to use this material with some of the most widely used FDM 3D printer models currently in use, such asPrusa I3 MK3S+ or the different models of Raise3D, Ultimaker or Zortrax. You can download these profiles through this link.
