Fiber Three is a 3D printing materials manufacturer specialising in the development of technical filaments, especially polyamide filaments. Within its catalogue of materials, they have reinforced filaments, such as the F3 PA-CF Pro filament, a polyamide filament with carbon fibre loading.

Nylon (PA) is undoubtedly one of the most widely used materials at a technical level in FDM 3D printing. This is because this material meets the mechanical requirements for demanding applications in various industries, whether for prototyping or manufacturing functional end parts.

F3 PA-CF Pro filament has a polyamide base and a 15 wt.% carbon fibre filler, a higher proportion than that contained in other polyamide filaments with carbon fibre. This carbon fibre filler drastically reduces the shrinkage of the material, providing excellent dimensional stability. It also improves interlayer adhesion and adhesion to the printing surface, reducing the chances of warping.

Thanks to its composition, F3 PA-CF Pro filament is a material with high tensile strength and excellent impact resistance. F3 PA-CD Pro filament is suitable for all demanding applications where, in addition to mechanical properties, the material must withstand high temperatures.

In addition to all these properties, the filament's matt black finish makes it useful and attractive even for applications in sectors such as architecture and design.

This filament is part of Fiber Three's range of professional grade materials, and differs from standard filament in that it has a higher tensile strength, improved printability and increased sensitivity to moisture.

This sensitivity to moisture is not a problem thanks to F3 Safe, the drying cases developed by Fiber Three, which allow the material to be stored and kept free of moisture even during the 3D printing process.

Without a doubt, thanks to filaments such as F3 PA-CF Pro and the development of drying devices such as F3 Safe cases, the professional FDM 3D printing process with technical materials is facilitated and optimised, enabling companies in various industries to manufacture high-quality prototypes and final parts.

When 3D printing polyamide-based materials such as F3 PA-CF Pro filament, certain factors must be taken into account, as it is a hygroscopic material. This means that it is a material with a tendency to absorb moisture from the surrounding environment.

The use of a filament with moisture can directly affect the quality of the parts and the mechanical properties of the material. Therefore, in addition to working with a 3D printer that has the right characteristics for 3D printing nylon filament, the user must store and handle the filament in the right conditions. For this reason, the manufacturer recommends using the F3 Safe drying case both to store the material and to keep it free of moisture during the 3D printing process.

Due to the carbon fibre content of this filament, the use of hardened steel nozzles is recommended. The use of a standard brass nozzle is not recommended for this material, as carbon fibre is abrasive and degrades standard nozzles, even modifying the nozzle output diameter. Despite the glass fibre filling, the F3  PA-CF Pro filament does not require the use of a large exit diameter nozzle, although it is recommended to use a nozzle with at least 0.25 mm exit diameter.

On the other hand, the F3  PA-CF Pro filament has a higher stiffness than other materials. This should be taken into account to try to avoid sharp curves in the path from the spool to the extrusion system of the 3D printer.

The manufacturer Fiber Three offers the user different printing profiles to use this material with some of the most widely used FDM 3D printer models currently in use, such asPrusa I3 MK3S+ or the different models of Raise3D, Ultimaker or Zortrax. You can download these profiles through this link.
