Treed Filaments is an Italian company dedicated to the production of products for FDM 3D printing. Within its wide catalogue of filaments, we can highlight the filaments focused on the architecture and art sector and the technical filaments, developed for very specific applications.
Treed Filaments' range of technical materials includes Nylon PAKK, composed of PA6 and additivated to obtain a self-extinguishing and flame retardant filament.
Nylon is a synthetic polymer belonging to the polyamide family and is widely used in industry. This material can be found in numerous applications that require a high level of strength.
Within the polyamide family, a distinction can be made between PA6 and PA12. Polyamide 6 is a nylon that stands out for its high toughness, short- and long-term heat resistance, surface quality, creep and UV resistance. On the other hand, PA12 is a highly resistant polyamide, even in low temperature environments, with high resistance to cracking, low moisture absorption and maintains its shape under stress for long periods of time.
Nylon PAKK filament is a technical material with high temperature resistance, high resistance to high frequency impacts and good UV resistance. However, the most outstanding feature of this material is its resistance to flammability.
Underwriters Laboratories Standard 94, better known as UL94, is the most widely used standard for classifying the flammability of plastics. Within the UL94 flame classification we can find 6 different types: UL94-5VA, UL94-5VB, UL94 V-0, UL94 V-1, UL94 V-2 and UL94 HB.
The Nylon PAKK filament has a UL94 V-0 certificate for a wall thickness of 0.5 mm, stopping combustion in 10 seconds and without dripping of the ignited material.
Treed Filaments highlights the use of PAKK Nylon filament for electrical and electronic applications requiring UL94 V0 certification, high temperature and UV exposure.
PAKKK Nylon (PA6) is a technical 3D printing filament with good mechanical properties, resistance to chemicals, electricity, high and low temperatures. This filament is suitable for the protection of electrical elements exposed to high discharges. In addition, it can be printed on any FDM/FFF 3D printer on the market with a hot bed.

PAKK Nylon is a technical filament for FDMM/FFF 3D printers that requires the use of a 3D printer with a hot bed that reaches between 80 and 90 ºC and an extrusion temperature of between 250 and 270 ºC. In addition, the use of a flexible base, such as Ziflex or BuildTak, and the application of a specific adhesive on the printing base, such as Magigoo PA or 3DLAC, is recommended for proper adhesion during the 3D printing process.
Once the 3D printing process is finished, it is recommended not to leave the filament inside the nozzle for more than 20 minutes. In addition, it is recommended to use a cleaning filament such as Smart Clean.
PAKK Nylon is a less hygroscopic material than conventional polyamides. Despite this, it is recommended to pre-dry the filament in a filament drying oven such as PrintDry Pro. To eliminate deformations and relieve stresses caused by the 3D printing process, it is recommended to anneal at 90°C for 2 hours.
