LAY-FOMM 60 is a new 3D printing filament belonging to the family of the POROLAY filaments. It is characterized by sparkling and highly porous. This material is composed of a polymer and PVA (soluble). Therefore, a portion of this filament is water soluble. Once the material is immersed in water, the PVA component is dissolved in water and the rubber polymer remains as a micro-porous object.
LAY-FOMM 60 is finished as a soft rubber, and is therefore ideal for printing similar to the soft rubber objects, sponge-like objects, ink tanks, bio-cells, micro-foam and elastic. Printed objects with LAY-FOMM 60 be rigid and strong (virtually zero deformation), but once submerged in water become micro-porous and elastic.
LAY-FOMM 60 is a very soft filament and has a Shore hardness A60, is a little firmer than the LAY-FOMM 40 having a hardness Shores A40 (hence its name). For greater flexibility of the printed object it is recommended to place the object in a container with water at room temperature for 1-4 days.
This is one of the latest creations of Kai Parthy (creator of filaments as well known as the LayBrick, LayWoo-D3 or Bendlay among others). Importantly, the pores are not visible to the naked eye. Objects printed FOMM LAY-well 60 can be wetted with water with many liquids such as oil, glycerin, inks, saline solutions, ionic liquids or to be electrically conductive.

To print with the LAY-FOMM 60 filament is not necessary to have a warm bed in the 3D printer. It is essential to use Kapton Tape or 3DLac. For maximum flexibility of the printed object it is recommended that part or object immersed in a container of water from one to four days. The effect of PVA solution component and the other part of the gelatinous transformation begins to be clearly seen after immersed one day. If you want to reduce the time the object immersed in the liquid to print fewer walls (Shell) and less filling percentage. It can also accelerate dissolution of the PVA if shaken occasionally workpiece.
The recommended print temperature is 220 °C to 230 °C. The POROLAY filaments are specially designed for experimental use by experienced users. All components of the filament 60 LAY-FOMM are harmless and safe.
The 250 g. format of the Lay-Fomm 60 filament can sometimes cause problems during the printing process because it does not include a spool that helps the correct supply of material from the 3D printer.
To avoid this type of problem when printing this and other filaments that are sold in masterspool format you can use a variable spool holder. Thanks to the use of this device, all kinds of tangles and overlaps derived from the absence of a spool are largely avoided.
