The PETG is a modified version of the previous PET. Polyethylene Glycol Terephthalate (PETG) is a non-toxic thermoplastic polymer used in the manufacture of clothing and in products such as containers. PETG filaments have gained much popularity due to their low molding temperature and durability, so it isn't surprising that manufacturers develop new materials from PETG.

The Nanovia PETG AF stands out from the rest of the market by a size of aramid fiber optimized for 3D FDM printing. This distribution of the fibers frees the printer's extruder from jamming, but even so it is recommended to use a nozzle larger than 0.4mm, as in many other filaments with high quality fibers (XSTRAND GF30-PPXSTRAND GF30-PA6Timberfill Light Wood ToneTimberfill RosewoodTimberfill ChampagneTimberfill CinnamonSmartfil E.P. and etc). Apart from that, the PETG AF together with the PLA is one of the easiest and most stable materials for printing parts and models regardless of their size.

On the other hand, the development of this filament has also managed to obtain values of mechanical strength (Tensile Modulus: 3700 MPa) so high that they are only surpassed by really advanced materials (PETG CF, PEI CF, GF30-PPGF30-PA6 and few more). Due to its high aramid fiber content, PETG AF has a high resistance to friction and impact. Such is its resistance to blows that security elements, such as bulletproof vests and equipment of the armed forces, are made of aramid fibers, better known as Kevlar.

The great dimensional stability obtained with the fusion of the PETG with the aramid fiber, results in a material with a low flammability, classified with the HB category. A material is classified HB when a sample of a thickness of 1.6 mm (in this case) is burned at a maximum speed of 76 mm/minute.

The PETG AF is a material oriented for users who need to make structural parts and exposed to high mechanical stresses. This is why many branches of engineering use this material to make their prototypes and final pieces. In particular for applications where the pieces are exposed to strong impacts (the aramid fiber absorbs and dissipates the energy produced by the blows) or in continuous friction with other elements. But aramid fibers are sensitive to humidity and UV rays, something that is solved thanks to the great resistance of PETG to these environmental elements.

Nanovia PETG AF (PETG with aramid fiber) is an ideal material to replace temporary or permanent functional parts with medium loads combined with wear or shock, which can be post-processed (sanding, painting, etc.) with total tranquility. In addition, the PETG AF is compatible with most 3D FDM printers on the market and with any standard nozzle (brassequal to or greater than 0.50 mm in diameter.

3D printing with PETG filament is just as simple as with the PLA filament. In the case of the PETG AF filament, it's necessary that the printing base is hot, between 80 and 100ºC. In addition, the temperature of the extruder should be between 200 and 240ºC. In the case of printing large pieces it's advisable to use BuildTak, Kapton TapeMagigoo or DimaFix so that the pieces don't tend to detach from the base. To ensure the dimensional stability of the parts it's advisable to use a closed 3D printer.

With the PETG AF it's necessary to use a nozzle of 0.50mm in diameter or more but it isn't necessary to use a reinforced nozzle since this filament has low abrasion. Even so it's recommended to use the Nozzle Olsson Ruby for all advanced materials.
