Treed Filaments, an Italian manufacturer of 3D printing products, has an extensive catalogue of materials for FDM/FFF 3D printing. Within this manufacturer's extensive catalogue, its filaments aimed at sectors such as architecture or its technical filaments stand out.

Longchain Nylon is a filament composed of PA12, a synthetic polymer that belongs to the polyamide family, widely used in industry and in numerous highly demanding applications.

Within the polyamide family, a distinction can be made between PA6 and PA12. Polyamide 6 is a nylon that stands out for its high tenacity, short and long term heat resistance, creep resistance and UV resistance.

PA12, on the other hand, is a highly resistant polyamide even in low temperature environments. It also has a high resistance to cracking, low moisture absorption and maintains its shape under stress over long periods of time.

Longchain Nylon is composed of polyamide 12, one of the many materials belonging to the group of aliphatic polyamides. This thermoplastic has excellent chemical and thermal resistance, high dimensional stability and low density.

Applications

Thanks to its excellent properties, Longchain Nylon is an ideal material to replace metal parts in industrial environments. This material stands out from other engineering plastics due to its resistance to oil, electricity, high and low temperatures and pressures.

Lonchain Nylon filament is a material suitable for a wide variety of applications, including:

  • Fuel lines.
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic hoses.
  • Robotic arms, with complex and more resistant geometries.
  • Electrical and telephone cable sheathing.
  • Alternator housings.

Treed Filaments' Longchain Nylon is a technical filament for FDM/FFF 3D printing with additional stiffness, ideal for applications where the material must withstand corrosive agents, electricity, high and low temperatures and pressure. Due to its excellent characteristics it is ideal for replacing metal in a variety of industrial applications.

PA12, Longchain Nylon requires an extrusion temperature of between 230 - 250 °C and a base temperature of between 85 - 105 °C. It is recommended to use a nozzle with at least 0.4 mm output diameter and the use of a flexible printing surface such as Ziflex or BuildTak. It is also recommended to use a specific adhesive such as Magigoo PA to improve adhesion to the printing surface.

Longchain nylon is a less hygroscopic polyamide than others, but the manufacturer recommends pre-drying in a filament dryer such as PrintDry Pro before printing the material. This process should take approximately 2 hours at 70 ºC for a 1 kg spool.

Once the 3D printing process is finished, it is recommended not to leave the filament in the nozzle for more than 20 minutes. In addition, it is recommended to use a cleaning filament such as Smart Clean.
