The VarioShore pellets by ColorFabb are a TPU-based compound with a foaming agent, just like the ColorFabb VarioShore filament. The key features of the VarioShore material are its variable Shore hardness, reduced weight and density, and a soft touch. This material is ideal for the additive manufacturing of parts with foam-like properties for various sectors.

The density of VarioShore can be modified by adjusting the extrusion temperature, speed and layer height. For example, at extrusion temperatures of 200-250 ºC, VarioShore will increase its volume about 1.4-1.6 times with respect to its original volume, resulting in a density of only 0.7-0.9 g/cm³. To compensate the active foaming, the user can use flow rates of 60-70 %, and this way get a very soft surface finish of the part.

If no foaming is desired, the extrusion temperature should be between 190 and 200 ºC. This results in different haptics of the 3D printed part and increased part hardness. With maximum foaming the VarioShore pellets will print parts with a Shore hardness of 55 A, and an unfoamed part will have a Shore hardness of 92 A.

The VarioShore pellets are perfect for the additive manufacturing of various decorative objects or prototypes with the help of FGF manufacturing solutions such as the CEAD AM Flexbot solution, the CEAD E25 extruder, the Mahor V4 pellet extruder, the Tumaker 3D printers or the Dyze Pulsar extruder. It is also possible to manufacture personalized 3D printing filament from the Woodfill pellets with the help of the Felfil ecosystem.

The proper storage of 3D printing materials is key to smooth extrusion, and great surface quality and mechanical properties of the 3D printed part. The ColorFabb VarioShore pellets should be stored in a closed package in dry conditions at temperature below 50 ºC, protected from UV-light at all times. If the pellets absorb excess moisture, they should be dried for 6-9 hours at 60 ºC (dehumidifying dryer preferred). The recommended processing temperature for the VarioShore pellets is 190-230 ºC. At 190 ºC no foam is produced, at 200-210 ºC foam formation is activated and the maximum temperature for foam formation is between 210 and 230 ºC.
