The BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough filament is the ideal material for professional 3D printing and high-demand projects. Designed for users seeking speed, strength, and precision in additive manufacturing, this bio-based filament combines durability, biocompatibility, and ease of printing without compromising aesthetics.

Superior mechanical properties

With impact resistance up to 7 times higher than standard PLA and enhanced hardness through annealing by up to 230%, BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough delivers performance comparable to ABS while being bio-based and sustainable. Heat resistance increases up to 157 °C after annealing, allowing industrial applications and advanced prototyping with reliable results.

Optimised for high printing speed

This filament supports printing speeds up to 300 mm/s without hardware adjustments, ensuring smooth surfaces, sharp details, and complex geometries. Its compatibility with water-soluble support materials allows the production of complex structures and large-scale prints with faster and more precise post-processing.

Available diameters and spool sizes

BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough is available in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm, with spools ranging from 750 g to 8 kg. This reduces filament reloads and facilitates printing of large volumes and professional projects without interruptions.

Annealing to enhance properties

PLA Tough annealing involves heating the filament slightly below its melting point, relieving internal stresses and reorganising molecular chains. This process significantly increases hardness, heat resistance, and impact resistance, optimising the filament for industrial applications and high-demand prototyping.

Verified biocompatibility

BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough has passed extensive biocompatibility and skin safety tests, making it suitable for skin-contact projects in healthcare, orthopaedics, and personal use. Proper processing ensures safe and reliable parts for professional applications.

Post-processability and superior aesthetics

Parts printed with PLA Tough can be sanded, painted, or coated with epoxy for a smooth, glossy, and professional finish. Touch-up tools and specialised coatings hide layer lines, providing a premium and durable appearance to each 3D print.

Professional applications of PLA Tough

This filament is perfect for functional prototyping, jigs and fixtures, orthotics, prosthetics, and manufacturing aids. Its versatility and reliability make it the favourite choice for engineers, designers, and manufacturers seeking high precision and efficiency in industrial 3D printing. BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough also excels in large-scale printing and complex geometries thanks to its consistency and superior performance.

Sustainable and bio-based material

BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough is a bio-based, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly filament, ideal for manufacturers seeking sustainable additive production without sacrificing performance or aesthetics. Its combination of strength, speed, and ease of use makes it unbeatable for industrial and educational applications.

Conclusion

BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough is the most complete filament for professionals and advanced enthusiasts. Its impact resistance, printing speed, biocompatibility, and post-processing ease make it the ultimate choice for demanding and sustainable 3D printing projects. From functional prototypes to premium aesthetic parts, BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough delivers performance, consistency, and reliability without compromise, ensuring professional results every time.

The BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough filament should be printed at a temperature of 200-220 ºC with a speed of 40-300 mm/s on a bed, preferably glass, heated to 50-70 ºC. For 3D printing parts with complex geometries and advanced technical structures, it is recommended to use the compatible BVOH support filament, which facilitates the production of detailed, high-performance models.

Annealing to Maximise Mechanical Properties

To increase hardness, heat resistance, and impact resistance of 3D printed parts with BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough, an annealing process is recommended. This is carried out in an oven capable of reaching 120 ºC. The part should be placed at room temperature, and the temperature gradually raised to 120 ºC over approximately 15 minutes. The recommended holding time is 30 minutes (longer for larger parts), and cooling from 120 ºC to room temperature should take around 15 minutes to prevent warping and ensure precise dimensional results.

Optimal Print Settings

  • Nozzle temperature: 200-220 °C
  • Bed temperature: 50 - 70 °C
  • Bed material: Glass
  • Nozzle diameter: ≥ 0.4 mm
  • Print speed: 40 - 300 mm/s

To achieve higher print speeds, it may be necessary to increase the nozzle temperature. The maximum speed indicated was determined through extensive testing, ensuring optimal surface quality with a 0.4 mm nozzle and 0.2 mm layer height. As 3D printing technology evolves, even higher speeds may become achievable.

Filament Storage and Preservation

The BEDROCK 3D PLA Tough should be stored at 15-25 °C in a clean, dry, and moisture-free environment to maintain performance and consistency. It is recommended to keep the filament in its original sealed packaging or in an airtight bag with a filament desiccant capsule inside the spool. Alternatively, it can be stored in a smart filament container before and after use, and in a filament drying device during printing to ensure material longevity and consistent, high-quality 3D printing results.
