A combination of Nexa 3D's ultrafast resin 3D printing technology and Henkel's experties in high-performance materials gives rise to the xPP405-Black 3D printing resin. This material brings greater design agility and greater supply chain resiliency to the industrial and consumer goods sectors, allowing for ultrafast implementation and twentyfold productivity gains.
The xPP405-Black resin is a polypropylene based material characterized by toughness, excellent impact resistance, an over 100 % elongation at break and a modulus similar to molded, unfilled polypropylene. Apart from its outstanding mechanical properties, the xPP405-Black resin exhibits excellent weathering resistance and UV stability, as proven in accelerated QUV tests conducted by Nexa 3D (ASTM G154).
The xPP405-Black resin produces stiff and durable parts with an attractive industrial black finish. Parts made with this resin are ideal for the additive manufacturing of a wide variety of tools for the production floor, including industrial jigs, fixtures, housings and enclosures or consumer goods applications. Parts 3D printed with the xPP405-Black resin can be machined, tapped, or polished for an even more astonishing final finish.
In combination with the Nexa 3D XiP ultrafast 4K 3D printer, a series of 54 pipe manifolds for a leading industrial client was produced in only 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Thanks to its excellent mechanical properties and UV resistance, parts made with the xPP405-Black resin can be applied in environments where long-term resistance and durability are essential, including end-use outdoor applications like piping elements, packaging, enclosures, housings, jigs and fixtures, but also to make accurate high-quality and aesthetically pleasing design verification models and functional prototypes.

Certain precautions must be taken when working with 3D printing resins. The user must ensure that the working space is adequately ventilated, and that protective goggles, gloves and garments are worn at all times. The xPP405-Black resin should be stored in a tightly closed container/resin vat to avoid resin deterioration due to UV exposure. The container/vat should be kept in a cool, well ventilated area away from heat, sparks and open flame.
Parts 3D printed with the Nexa 3D xPP405-Black resin will achieve their specific properties only after being subjected to post-processing by washing and curing. If applicable, the support structures must be removed from the part before curing and the part must be washed. Nexa3D recommends 2 wash intervals (2 minutes each) in IPA alcohol or xClean. It is recommended to use two buckets in the cleaning process, especially when working with multiple resin colors, to prevent resin residue from sticking to the part.
Once washed, the parts 3D printed with the xPP405-Black resin must be dried and then cured either with the help of an LED or wide spectrum lamp, or in the Nexa 3D Wash+Cure station developed especially for the washing and curing of parts 3D printed on the XiP 3D printer. The recommended washing, drying and curing times can be consulted on the manufacturer's website for each Nexa 3D resin.
More information on how to print and post-process the Nexa 3D resins can be found here.
