Linear thermoplastic urethane elastomers, or TPE-U/TPU, are block copolymers of polyols and diisocyanates pioneered by BF Goodrich in the late 1950s. Their varying polymer ratios yield materials ranging from semi-rigid to highly elastic, finding use in various industries and applications cable coatings, hose manufacturing, textiles, shoe soles, waterproofing, vibration dampening, and consumer product components.
Urethane-based elastomers stand out for their high resistance to wear and abrasion, high tensile strength, good damping capacity, good toughness and resistance to fats and oils. In addition, TPU is compatible with the skin and has a high resistance to fungi, which makes it suitable even for medical or orthopedic applications.
Flexa Black is a TPE-U based material specially formulated by Sinterit for its Lisa and Lisa Pro printers. It is a general-purpose linear elastomer that allows its hardness to be varied between 70 and 90 Shore A depending on the settings selected during printing.
Flexa Black offers excellent mechanical properties such as a tensile strength of 3.7 MPa with a deformation at break of 136 %. It also stands out for being 100% reusable, so it is not necessary to add new refreshment material.
Flexa Black is an ideal material for soft-touch components in prototypes and short series, anti-vibration components, gaskets or impact protectors. Together with PA12 Smoth, Flexa Black one of the essential materials for any user of Lisa or Lisa Pro.
