Today it is possible to cut plastic with different tools, but the great problem existing until the appearance of the WonderCutter S ultrasonic cutter, was that none of them had been specifically designed to cut plastic.

WonderCutter S by Cutra cuts by means of ultrasonic vibrations sheets or plastic parts of a maximum thickness of 3-5mm "as if it were a piece of cheese". It is a powerful cutting tool that works up to 40,000 vibrations/second.

In addition to cutting plastic (For example: ABS, acrylic or polycarbonate), you can cut cardboard, chemical fiber, rubber, leather, formex, MDF and felt. One of the few materials that it is not able to cut are glass and metal (As well as some flexible plastic like the TPU).

The ultrasonic cutter manufactured by Cutra in the Republic of Korea, is able to cut these materials without practically making effort and with great precision.

Thanks to having a built-in rechargeable battery allows you to operate anywhere, whether you are on a table or fastened to your belt without relying on physical "ties" of any kind.

The concept of WonderCutter S was born in 2015 and has years of development and continuous improvement to reach the current final product. His system is patented and has been a success in his Kickstarter launch campaign. He has received the prize for best invention in recent years at various prestigious fairs of new inventions such as the fair in Genova, Seoul or Silicon Valley has become popular as the great cutting tool in 3D printing as well as in other areas. In addition, the ultra-sound cutter has RoHS certification, CE marking and FCC certification.

The main characteristics for which WonderCutter S is highlighted among users are the following:

  1. Fast: Produces vibrations of 40,000 vibrations / sec, maximizing efficiency and minimizing heating. The tip of the blade applies constant pressure by its shape to the material that is cutting, so this allows cutting the material fairly quickly.
  2. Precise: With WonderCutter S you can be an expert cutting all types of products accurately. All users who are accustomed to the use of cuters or precision manual blades are highly surprised with the precision of cutting that is achieved with WonderCutter S . It must be borne in mind that an important factor is the user's pulse, although sometimes industrial users design templates for guiding the handle (never the blade) to make specific cuts, although it is not recommended.
  3. Easy to use: It is very easy and safe to use both if you place it on a table or if you wear it at the waist, since it has been designed to have portability and not depend on a fixed power supply, its weight is also only 750g. It has an integrated battery that can keep the WonderCutter S in operation in a range of between 1.5h and 3h depending on the type of resistance or hardness of the material cut. Another intrinsic advantage is that it is quite silent during use.

It presents a low power consumption with only 30W. In relation to safety, the use of WonderCutter S has a complexity similar to that of any basic cutting tool used in the home, however, for safety it is essential and mandatory to use it with nitrile rubber foam gloves that are incorporated.

Below are three examples of using WonderCutter S in different processes.

1. Use for supports of printed pieces in SLA or DLP and for panels:

2. Greater comfort compared to classic tools in different areas of application:

3. Cutting comparison of supports in flexible resin SLA, between traditional tool and WonderCutter S:

Official spare parts such as a blade ficture, extra blades, an extra charger or set screws are available for the WonderCutter S ultrasonic cutter.

In the manual that is included in the downloads section you can obtain all the necessary information to use the WonderCutter tool correctly. The following section shows a brief summary of the main considerations to take into account. On page 11 of the manual you will find frequently asked questions (FAQ's) with their respective answers.

Mode of use

  1. Press the power button on the main station for 1 to 2 seconds to turn on the LED on the front panel. This causes the cutter / handle to enter the standby mode. The LED (green) on the handle will be off.
  2. Pull the handle or knob outward into the main body or station.
  3. In the standby state, press the power button on the handle. This will cause 40,000 vibrations per second. The cutter only works while pressing. The LED (green) on the handle is on, which indicates that you are cutting.
  4. When used for more than 10 minutes, the product stops working and goes into standby. The green LED on the handle is in the wait state until the button on the handle is actuated.

The internal temperature of the handle increases while it is used, becoming a steady state due to high temperature. The LED button on the handle does not turn on steady at high temperature.

When the station is on, the vibrating part or handle continuously creates sound waves, so the WonderCutting station must be turned off when not in use. To avoid unintentional operation of the station, the product is designed to emit a beep.

Operating modes

Stand-by

The LED lights green when the station is on. The remaining battery can be checked in the LED on the front panel of the station. The green LED on the handle when WonderCutter enters the stand-bt state will turn off. It will enter this state automatically after the station beeps when it has not been used (or in standby mode) for more than 10 minutes.

Working

Pressing the button on the handle will turn on the green LED and begin vibrations on the cutter. It will only work if the handle button is pressed for safety.

Standby mode (for high temperature)

The product enters high temperature state after being used for 10 minutes. The protection function pauses the cutter and activates the standby mode when it is at a high temperature. When the temperature drops below a certain level, the green LED will turn on again so that it can be used again.

Stand-by after beep

The continuous production of 40,000 vibrations per second generates vibrations at high temperature, and the protection function is activated when the circuit is overloaded. In this case, the power button on the switch can not be activated, and the green LED button will be off. The setting screw of the blade or the overload in the blade usually produces this situation. The station must be turned off and the knife fixing screw tightened before restarting the device to prevent it from happening again.

Charge

The WonderCutter must be loaded in the following cases:

  • Before using for the first time
  • After carrying without using it for a long period.
  • When the battery level indicated at the station is zero.

The full load will be carried out in 2 hours and to load it the temperature should always be in a range of 5ºC to 40ºC. Only valid for input plugs AC100-240V, 50-60Hz, 0.6A Max.

Verifications before use

  • Check that the device is loaded.
  • Fix the product correctly when it is worn around the waist.
  • Install the blade correctly in the handle.
  • Tighten the set screw for safety reasons.

Replacing the blade and fixator

  • The blade should be replaced when the product is switched off.
  • Unscrew the blade holder and remove the worn blade. Repeat the same action to introduce the new one. It is very important that the fixing part and the blade are perfectly aligned. It must be tightened with the hexagonal wrench.
  • When the blade is changed, the button must be pressed on the magician and the station for 2 seconds. It will be detected automatically and a beep will be emitted with the LED light on for 1.5 seconds and then the product will turn off. When the product is turned off, tighten the fixing screw until there are 3 to 4 LED lights on. Once the fixing screw is fixed, turn on the main body power and press the handle switch to verify that the product is working properly.
  • When the adjusting screw is not adjusted correctly, the blade may jump and this may cause serious accidents. When the blade is not adjusted correctly, a beep sounds and the power button on the handle does not work.

Precautions for use

  • The WonderCutter ultrasonic cutter, as it is known, cuts many times better than a normal cuter, so for this reason many more precautions should be taken to the same extent.
  • WonderCutter should be worn with safety glasses as well as appropriate clothing.
  • It is mandatory to use the safety gloves provided with the equipment or others but always made of nitrile rubber foam.
  • Depending on what is being cut, the cut can generate noxious gas so in this case you will have to use protective masks and ventilate the work area.
  • The workplace should be kept clean and well lit.
  • Turn off the station button when the handle is not in use.
  • The system should not be turned on when the handle is inside the station.
  • You can not cut metal or glass. It is very important to be aware of this limitation to avoid serious damage. Also, do not use the product to cut flammable objects such as oil paper.
  • When changing the blade or handling it must be careful to avoid cuts.
  • The 40,000 vibrations per second increases the temperature in the blade due to friction so the product is very hot, including the blade, the blade attachment and the set screw. Care should be taken not to burn and use the aforementioned PPE's.
  • Do not touch the product with wet hands.
  • Do not expose the product to any type of liquid.
  • Stop using the product immediately when it is in contact with water.
  • Do not use the product when the cable or AC adapter has been damaged.
  • Do not touch the blade under any circumstances while it is being operated.
  • Grasp the plug to remove the charger.
  • Keep the product away from children.
  • Do not give a strong physical impact on the product.
  • Do not remodel or decompose the product. Never repair it, remodel it, or decompose it.
  • Do not insert any metal in the opening of the crack.
  • If you try to cut hard or thick materials the device can heat up sooner and the standby mode will be activated before 10 minutes.
  • The product is a lightweight ultrasonic wave cutter. Do not exert too much force and keep it correctly.
  • If the blade is not fixed correctly, the vibration temperature can negatively affect the life cycle of the product.
